The lyric “we were gonna save the world we can't even save ourselves” makes me want to burst into tears. There’s a nostalgic feeling to it. As a kid I always had big dreams and goals. I wanted to change the world someday but now as a grown adult, I continue to fight for myself and most days I can’t even save myself. This song relates to me so much because I often talk a walk whenever I get anxious and my mind is just pure chaos. :(

A few years ago I was going through the DARKEST time of my life. I somehow ended up with JTL tickets for a show you guys did in Asheville at the Orange Peel. I had spent 10 years building a company and due to mental health issues had to sell the company and felt like I had forgotten how to dream. At that show I could literally take you back to the place I was standing when you guys sang "going to mars" and in that moment I was like wait...I can dream again. It will come back. Almost 5 years later I am in the middle of a new startup and closing an investor deal at 3:30 today. YOUR SHOW was the ultimate turning point for me. I think about it all of the time. Thank you for your inspiring & relatable vulnerability. Cannot wait to see the next tour!

Also for anyone reading this, you are strong, you are important, you are worth fighting for... even if the road ahead seems tough, your life seems to weigh down your shoulders, keep moving forward even through all the pain... I know it hurts, but I promise it will get better! 💗💕💗💕💗💞💗💞💗💞💗💕💗💞💗💞💗💞

As someone who has clinical depression, which has only gotten worst over the course of the 7 years I've had it, I really relate to this. Like straight in the cockpit, this is a fraction of my embodiment, all the information has been a point of my life throughout said 7 years and the reflections during it. It's strange to think I'm not 19 yet, but we're already at that age of where we feel nostalgia and the pain of leaving childhood. It often leaves me feeling indifferent, dissociative, numb or most commonly just the array of sadness to depression and misery. You take many things in and like a sponge you absorb the worst with it into your brain. I learned so much about my depression, mental illness as a whole and plenty of other types of mental illnesses. I won't leave you without from respite for reading this and I'll share what I've learned that may help anyone, especially those with moderate depression. Medication and anti depressants in general don't kick in for at least a month or two, there are plenty of types and come with side effects. Most importantly they don't work for everyone and there is drug resistance in some people. You may need to cycle through many before you find one that may work, you may also need to increase dosage periodically. If after a few months they don't work, then talk to your doctor or therapist about swapping before taking yourself off them manually, it needs to be done gradually to avoid more side effects. Mental illness as a whole can make you be in agony for a long time and feeling numb to happiness or unconnected or misunderstood only amplifies this. Music is always helpful and contains a great deal of meaning, friends who understand are a must. Hobbies will help get you some activity which will produce more serotonin, point being be active and you'll feel a bit better. Games can help and there are quite a few that deal with depression. Night In The Woods deals with depression, anxiety, money, family, and lots of things, but incorporates it in a way that makes it seem less gloomy and more of a thing, while also not dwelling on it by providing many things to do. If playing isn't your thing, Jacksepticeye (great person all round) did a playthrough and has plenty to say and a great attitude and has a great deal of knowledge and sympathy that comes out with it. Omori has meaning, but does not present it as easily, if you're in a bad headspace it might not be my fist recommendation. It provides a fantastic story and is very fun, but has intermission that takes place between the day and night. It covers over more as the game picks up, also has two different routes (open the door if you want meaning and comfort). As I said it does have some harsher elements in it, it isn't graphic and is mainly a pixel 3d game with a party style fighting system with interwoven meaning and story for a lack of better description. You can also watch a playthrough of it if you want, Manly Badass Hero has a playthrough and I'd recommend him for sure. Lethargy/ torpor (not being active) is on of depression's most devastating attacks, it can drain you of energy and essentially keep you glued down. Activity is the enemy of depression and going outside will help take your mind off things. I will also say remember to breathe deep and calm down to clear emotions and help reset your head. Religion isn't for everyone, but don't fear retaliation from God or lack there of for who you are; he loves everyone and despite flaws, he always will. I'm agnostic myself, but I feel better holding the hands of both those who walk the path and atheists alike, rather than having a divide between the two. Always try to be respectful of this and walk with many in your life and don't force the divide if you don't have to. Music can help for sure and you should try to listen to something upbeat. Twenty One Pilots carried my generation through it and came in with perfect timing. Their earlier songs have some better meaning, especially Self Titled or Blurryface. I Don't Know How But They Found Me/IDKHOW covers over this somewhat and besides that, is upbeat. There's plenty to take solace in and always people to listen to you, there's hotlines and text lines if you just want to be more impersonal. Be patient and celebrate your accomplishments that you achieved, no matter when or how small. Sometimes cleaning the dishes or getting your room cleaned is a feat, showers too. Take no shame in your condition especially if it's severe. I'd definitely recommend seeing a therapist, I've been in therapy for years and I'll say it'll help to find someone you can be honest with. Family isn't everything or always there, sometimes the blood around you is thicker than the water of the womb ( simply your friends can mean more than family). Just because they're family doesn't mean you have to get along, especially if they're hostile to you or toxic. That being said toxicity can also mean that they prod at you or defy you or try to invalidate you and your religion, sexuality's, job, color, whatever it may be. This far from covers everything, but I'd be hear for most of the week if I were to pour my heart out. Stay hopeful, despite your pain you may be experiencing. If I can help a few other people, that'll be enough to make me fulfilled. I wish you all the best, may you have good healing and have your heart filled with strength. You can win this, just stay strong.

I know this may not be what the artists intended, but songs can mean something completely different depending upon the situation. All I think about with this song are the very brave young Russians that refuse to remain submissive while their government decides their futures. They go and "take a walk downtown" to fight to end the war, "save the world" from the inside out, because "they can't even save themselves." I see them yelling, demanding for peace, for their neighbors. They act like heroes when they were young, giants in the streets!!! One day they will be happy again, and will be innocent....do you see it too? I wish I knew how to create a montage video with all the Russian protestors, being led away by police and put into those buses...this song, today, represents them all!!! 🇷🇺+🇺🇦=💗✌
