I have a lot on my plate, and am currently pushing to get into open MMA fights. Idk if it's the same everywhere, but It can be a challenge to get one's foot in the door with sanctioned bouts. I appreciate judo even more since I started MMA. Here are some examples: 1. In MMA, submissions are not always necessary. Sometimes you can simply pin and strike. For example, Kesa Gatame almost equals TKO. 2. Compared to wrestling, judo-style takedowns are less vulnerable to headlocks. 3. When wrestling against the cage, it's basically a judo fight. There may be more. These are just a few examples. But I sill think that there is no single best grappling style. The only superior approach is to have knowledge of all major styles: wrestling+judo+bjj

With a basic understanding of balance and anatomy, which judo teaches through partner exercises and techniques, it is certainly easier to adapt to other martial arts. The basis for kicks is an understanding of one's own center of gravity and foot techniques, strikes are recognizable in grip fighting with reversed signs. It is probably also easier to estimate the fighting distance because the possible development of force can be recognized in the opponent's center of gravity and speed. Ultimately, of course, it is a question of what is actually trained to build up muscles and flexibility and to be able to adapt to different opponents. In the end, of course, fighting experience is also irreplaceable.

Pitting a white belt in BJJ and a rookie sambo fighter against a black belt in judo is not a good way to compare martial arts. Judo is a great martial art for working in the standup and moving a person into the parterre. A person who can work in the parterre and stand-up, as well as possess striking techniques like combat sambo, will be knowingly stronger than a pure judoka. It definitely makes sense to study several disciplines simultaneously to achieve versatility in martial arts. A person who masters basic boxing technique, advanced BJJ or judo technique, and has the physical conditioning of a wrestler will be much more functional than a pure style fighter.

Because that's what the video is set up to show :D Judo is a solid martial art, but it isn't a complete one just like most others. To some extent, most try to reduce the risk of injury by restricting some techniques and concentrate on perfecting others, while any martial art that tries to learn everything will take longer to perfect anying. A boxer won't beat a judoka in a grapple, but neither is the judoka going to out-box the boxer. Its all situational. That said, many fights do involve grappling in some way.

You're trying to compare oranges and apples! Jigaro Kano originally created/codified Judo as self-defence for the Police. It morphed into a sport-whose ancestor was indeed Samurai fighting-which is based on and teaches a moral code of conduct for life. It's not for animals fighting in cages. If they need to dream of macho glory, that's great, but don't drag the supple way down to that level. The world needs more not less codes of conduct.

El judo es un Arte Marcial excepcional. Dicho lo anterior el karateka, mi respeto por él, pero no era precisamente Lyoto Machida.

As effective as BJJ is when the fight is already on the ground as stupid it is to watch a BJJ player when the fight is not on the ground yet. Pulling guard might work in a BJJ match but outside of that it's just funny and simply dumb.

So it looks like they teach a lot ground game in Judo? I thought it was just throws and Jiu-Jitsu is where it took over from there? But like one comment below said, jiujitsu is Judo with without throws.. Am really surprised how judo fares with other arts

We teach a lot of ground work, but the problem is in judo competition we don’t get enough time for the ground work.

judo vs jiu jitsu it was a cheating, because the individual who fought judo was a black belt, so he would have had to fight with a jiu jitsu black belt, and not a white belt, jiu jitsu would definitely have won, some will say that the jiu-jitsu fighter is a red belt because it is in the video, but it is not true, as this red belt only serves to differentiate opponents.

The BJJ guy looked absolutely pathetic. Trying to go down to the ground at every opportunity. Would get murdered if used in a real life situation.

I’m confused at the Judo vs BJJ clip. There is no way for any practitioner to achieve red belt, as it is only reserved for (iirc) two of the Gracie’s. The structure of this video implies that only Judo guys are winning. This makes me think that 1. The poster of the video lied, 2. The guy is a fraud

its a competition thing, so the ref awards points for the right person, if he lifts the hand with the red band and awards points, the points go to the one with the red belt
