On this day 85 years ago, Broadway Melody of 1938 premiered. Starring Eleanor Powell, Robert Taylor, Buddy Epson, Sophie Tucker and of course Judy Garland.
This was Judy‘s first major film for MGM, she sang two songs in this picture. The most famous was dear “Dear Mr. Gable you made me love you” the second one was “Everybody Sing” which would be the title of Judy’s next major film.
Visuals:
For the visuals, I edited together bits of clips of Judy’s famous songs from movies such as
“The Wizard of Oz” “Meet Me in St. Louis” “A star is Born” and many others including two rare colorized clips from “Babes in Arms” and “For Me and My Gal”
Audio:
To achieve this stereo mix Sound, there were two parts to the song. Judy’s solo at the beginning, which is edited using 3 pre recording takes, one for the vocals, then using a splitter to enhance the orchestra angles of the other 2 and putting both on right and left channels. The second part was the group chorus (2 takes) in which I put one on each audio channel and syncing them together. 5 different tracks total .
