Performed by Judy on 'The Judy Garland Show,' taped January 31, 1964. Her best known performance is, of course, Carnegie Hall, 1961.
The first jazz artist to record 'Alone Together' was Artie Shaw in 1939. A brief relationship /friendship existed between Judy & Artie Shaw, ending abruptly with Shaw's marriage to Lana Turner.
As Judy said, 'The history of my life is in my songs.' I interlaced a short clip of Shaw playing his clarinet in the background. I realize that for Judy purists this might be sacrilegious, especially for those who do not care for Shaw ... he seems to evoke strong opinion.
But Judy loved him, her first broken heart ...
Words by Howard Dietz, music by Arthur Schwartz, 1932
Alone together beyond the crowd
Above the world
We're not too proud to cling together
We're strong as long as we're together
Alone together the blinding rain
The starless nights were not in vain
For we're together
And what is there to fear together
Our love is as deep as the sea
Our love is as great as a love can be
And we can weather the great unknown
If we're alone together together together
If we're alone together
