Hi hi hi Felting Fans! My sister-in-law asked me to make a whimsical needle felt ostrich for her, so I was up for the challenge. I really wanted it to be able to stand on its own, so check out what I did to make that happen!
(Two things to note - I just realized there is a tiny bit of empty space somewhere in the middle of the video, so I apologize for that! It’s just a few seconds so you can speed past it to the rest of the video. Also, I forgot to mention that I baked the polymer clay beak before painting it… I didn’t just form it and paint it immediately the way it seems in the video.)
If you are a beginner to needle felting, this video is for you! Actually, even if you've been needle felting for a long time, I'll bet there might be something here for you to learn, too. And speaking of learning, I'm always open to your thoughts and feedback, so please feel free to comment!
I'm Jules, and I'm an obsessed needle felter who loves making whimsical miniature versions of people's pets. I still think sculpting with wool is magic.
Here are a few of the supplies I used here:
The core wool in this video is from Farm Girl Arts: www.etsy.com/shop/FarmGirlArts
A lot of the wool is from Big Sky Fiber Arts: www.etsy.com/listing/97018212...
The heavy duty black-tipped needle I use to make the initial eye-holes comes from Felt Alive (my favorite place to buy needles!) feltalive.com
The felting kit the awl came from (this kit also came with black plastic eyes, noses and a bunch of other useful things):
www.amazon.com/Needle-Felting...
The glue (which I love because it dries quickly and is not messy) aleenes.com

I made this channel to document my needle felting journey, and show you all of the tips and tricks I'm learning along the way. I'm constantly learning and I also follow a bunch of felters on KZitem, and I think you should follow them, too! Here are some of my favorites:

Pam Duthie (She shares much more than just felting)

Thank you so much for stopping by!
