Today we will talk about the tourist sites that all Jules Verne readers should know, let`s see!
On first place we have the carousel of the marine world, inspired by 20,000 leagues under the sea. It is a 25 meters high mechanical aquarium, full of strange creatures that range from “The jet-powered squid” to ship rides and “Flying fish”. It`s part of “The machines of the Island”, a project that mixes ideas from the imaginary of Jules Verne with the mechanical universe of Leonardo DaVinci and the industrial history of the city of Nantes.
We continue the tour at the Jules Verne museum, a place where books, documents, models, illustrations, games and even old movie posters based on his novels are shown.
They also have a tour that takes visitors to various important places in the city, starting on the street where the novelist was born, passing through his diverse residences and the monuments that have been placed in his memory.
Next, we have “Le Jules Verne”, a gastronomic restaurant located on the second floor of the most famous tower in Paris. The decoration is inspired by the 19th century and offers a beautiful view from 125 meters high.
Number four: Jules Verne`s Tomb.
It is located in the “La Madeleine” cemetery, in Amiens, France. The sculptor Albert Roze used the writers death mask to create a unique work in which we can see the writer breaking his tombstone, raising a hand up. The sculpture was named “Towards immortality and eternal youth”, becoming a true icon.
Number five: The Jules Verne mansion. It was the author`s home for almost 18 years. Visitors are allowed to walk from the ground floor to the attic, observing various objects that relate his life and work. We must add various monuments that are distributed in: Amiens, Nantes, Vigo, Formentera and even Russia.
