yup. Julia's right about salt, but her reasoning makes no sense. I mean, spicy means that it's hot. not all spices are that. Like, curry for example is certainly a spice, but it it isn't spicy on its own. but if you got a lot of curry in a meal, it's heavily spiced. things like chili peppers aren't spices either but they're still spicy. Or are they just hot, and spicy is just when spices are hot? either way, you need spices to have something spicy (mab), but spice =/= spicy. salt isn't a spice because it's just a whole different thing (mineral) that does a whole different thing to the food (change salt levels, rather than actively altering the taste, not that you don't taste salt, but I hope is clear what I mean)

I made a stew of sorts a few days ago. I don't have money for food right now and all I have is produce, so I threw together stuff in the crock pot: a carrot, a few old potatoes, unfresh parsley (I was actually a little worried I'd get food poisoning from it), cilantro, cabbage, old broccoli, chicken broth, and a wrinkled pepper that turned out to be really spicy and made the whole meal nearly inedible. The only way I've been forcing it down is with lots of sour cream and cheese and some coconut milk to try to drown out the spice. It's very much a Julia Cooking Sim meal.

Maybe that’s just me, but I feel that people shouldn’t use soup and stew interchangeably.

@@adinsilverstein2788 ok! I'm with Jacob, in some dialects of English spice is a synonym for "seasoning," and the origin of the seasoning isn't significant to which term you use: edit: having thought about it, it's actually "spices," plural, that can be interchanged with seasonings, saying salt isn't a spice feels valid, but including it in the general term "spices" is also valid, at least in my experiences with my dialect *casual reminder that meanings of words are determined by widespread usage amongst populations, not people who write dictionaries, who usually try to simply record those widespread usages*

Baked potatoes with seasoning are called 'american potatoes' and they are not common. In my country (Czech rep.), we put some cummin to the boiling potatoes too, but Czechs are said to put cummin to everything. Which is not true, we just put it to the potatoes. Julia playing with the cats during the sub read is just, 10/10 content. Especially when she threw the toy and kitty just was like... meh

this is a weird coincidence I keep seeing peoples opinions on mint chocolate chip ice cream some saying it tastes like toothpaste... which like have they actually tried the ice cream??? or is this like a genetics thing, like how cilantro tastes terrible to me and is just kinda spicy or something to most people?
