So for some backstory: Luke runs away from his parents since they weren't too enthused over his determination to pursue a career in music, so Luke runs away and forms a band. Months pass, and he never goes back, and then, before they can make up, he dies. This episode was honestly heartbreaking but others were definitely more cheerful, lots of stuff about finding your voice, growing as a person, making friends and so on. Would definitely recommend you watch it!

ALSO julie and the phantoms is a show directed by Kenny Ortega!!!!! The three boys are ghosts that were in a band in the 90s that died and came back as ghosts in 2020 and only Julie can see them, and they’re all musicians and form a band: Julie and the phantoms

Julie is a talented musician who lost her inspiration after the death of her mother. She meets three ghosts and together they form a band after finding out that people can see them when they perform. As you already saw, Luke ran away from home and died before he could reconcile with his parents. Luke died in 1995 so for 25 years, his parents thought he died hating them. And in this episode, Julie helps Luke give them closure by giving them a song Luke wrote.

OMG I am SO glad you reacted to this! PLEASE PLEASE do more songs from the show. This cast is insanely talented and I honestly think you would really enjoy the music. I know the show was originally marketed towards a younger audience, but it’s really gained a huge following with people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, etc. I think in part because of the amazing music. Now or Never is definitely my favorite because as an 80s/90s kid it definitely reminds me so much of the music I grew up with, but it also has an awesome modern edge to it, with a hint of influences from bands like 5SOS. You’d love it.
@booknerd_charlie

Also, unlike the other Netflix shows you mentioned, the songs here are very integral to the storyline and they aren’t just thrown in for no reason. The show is partly about their development as a band and the performances play into that. They performed most of them live while filming (with a few exceptions). The show does deal with grief and death but it is handled in a very thoughtful way and it is mainly a comedy. Only you know how you can handle what triggers you, but if you decide to do a Patreon watch party I would totally be down for that. Otherwise you should at least check out the other songs and the Behind the Band segments on Netflix that tell you how the show was put together (casting, recording, etc)

The show is about how Julie meets these ghosts who used to use the garage at Julie's house as a rehearsal room for the band they had in the 1900s, I don't remember the exact year. But anyway Julie and the ghosts make a band because they realize that if the ghosts play with Julie, they can be visible to people.

I think you’d love the song Now or Never from Julie and the Phantoms. It’s totally a 2000s punk-rock song. You actually nailed the context of the scene. Also the show is actually a comedy. The internet description says " After Julie lost her mom she also lost her love for music but after she meets 3 ghostly boys they help bring back her confidence and they start a band together." The show is directed by Kenny Ortega( Highschool Musical Trilogy) so it gives of a light hearted vibe still with small serious elements to it so no you won't be crying the whole show lol. Also the music isn't random they don't just break out into song for no reason only to songs are and its just in Julie's head. Good show, watch it.👌
