Weekly fishing reports for Long Island and Metro New York at www.thefisherma...
The Montauk big bass run shows no signs of letting up anytime soon, and the same can be said for porgy fishing all around the Island. Fluking is getting mixed reviews - good in some areas, picky in others. Sea bass are on the reefs, wrecks and hard bottom in the Sound, ocean and off of Montauk with sizes ranging anywhere from shorts to 5 pounders. Bluefish reports remain sparse, but triggerfish have showed up in good numbers on South Shore rockpiles.
The offshore waters are alive with tuna, whales and porpoises thanks to tons of sand eels, and sand eels are fueling some good action in the Montauk surf. Weatherwise, it looks like the winds will be down over the next few days but you may have to keep an eye out for thunderstorms at some point over the weekend.
