Awesome works guys! Everything is amazing and all, but I challenge you guys to really land a plane on the the carrier. No controlled "helicopter like" descent, a real forward approach. Arresting cables maybe?

@MaxHussein
3 жыл бұрын
oops, Looked at it again, tug IS rc. and maybe we could see a full operation? Like-- A plane takes of, fly's around, fires a missile at a ship and hurts it, then fly's home, makes a pull cord landing, then the deck tug pulls it back in place again, ready to fly another day. Now THAT would be mindblowing!

Out of curiosity - could you tell me what you use to simulate the cat steam? (curious about things like that potentially for cosplay to simulate smoke/smoulder, etc)
@Rapidnadion
6 жыл бұрын
Dave- A 2 qt. container of hot water with a tight fitting lid and 1" dia. hose coming out the top sits amidships. The hose runs forward and a little to port where it terminates at the forward end of the Cat. Under the tank lid but above the water we have a horizontal tray which will hold maybe 6 - 8 oz. of dry ice. On command, a dedicated servo flips the tray vertical and the frozen CO2 drops into the hot water bath and begins to create 'smoke'- which naturally flows through the hose up to the Cat. at the flight deck. Plenty of smoke until the water begins to cool down. We hope this helps, good luck with your smoke ventures.

The Meatball is a visual aid that allows pilot to line up for a proper landing angle,it's invaluable to aviators at night time since most light aids are turned off or low to protect the carrier from being visible to enemy ships and other aircraft.It's complicated to say how it works but it is very effective.

Hey rapid do you know the overall weight, top speed if necessary and total weight it can support on the water?
@Rapidnadion
8 жыл бұрын
Operating weight is around 300lbs., about half of that is battery and ballast.. Even running on only one of four motors, 63 steams along at way faster than scale. But if we ran at true scale speed, or a boatlength only every 20 seconds or so, there would be almost no wake generated, smoke and aircraft speeds would be even more out of whack, and camera operators / viewers might nod off. Sometimes, compromise is necessary. We expect the model would support e few hundred pounds, much like a kayak.

No 'prints, schematics at all; just work from the keel up using lots of photos for guidance. We've been building boats for decades so a lot of the processes are reviews of what we have already done many times before. Good luck with your build, Christy!

Many viewers have suggested adding arresting wires / tail hooks for the aircraft. In fact, the flight deck has had wires installed which have a fair amount of springy resistance in them for over a year. 6 aircraft, 3 T-28's and 3 F-22's all have tailhooks permanently installed as well, and can be seen in our video collection. A true tailhook-engaging -arrestor wire landing still eludes us but we are committed to keep trying 'til we get it right!
