Great list of knots to learn: -bowline -running bowline -clove hitch -Alpine butterfly loop -stopper knot aka rolling bend (for pulling or tying off high tension wire or rope etc..) -square knot -snub hitch -2 variations of a truckers hitch -half hitch -Also learn proper ways to roll up and stow rope. If you practice any knot, add real world applications to the practice. It’s not always as easy when you’re sitting on the couch in your preferred direction. This solves the issue of tying off to a metal hoop or loop on a boat. Notice that everything is UP or AWAY from you and ON TOP. And the original loop is faced off to the right or OUTSIDE. The loop is done with the right hand; but you could tie it left handed by simply transferring the same sequence but to the left part of the rope. This Bowline is adapted from the Marlin Spike Hitch. In this same way, you can use this method, stopping at the Marlin Spike Hitch, to put together a ladder, by tying multiple hitches on both the left and right side of the rope. Great demo. Well paced. I've tied this Bowline multiple ways and then slowly untied to get a sense of the major aspects that combine to make the knot what it is.

You can use both an overhand loop & underhand loop when tying the snap method, when it is away from you. For the rabbit in the hole method, it always has to be an underhand loop & on the inside facing towards the tail when tying it away from yourself

Quite a dangerous and deadly knot!!! Killed a lot of climbers in the older times, as it suddenly self-opens, if you apply a "Ring load", for example if one applies a large enough load by clipping a carabiner into the ring. But as long, as the load is applied in the incomming part of the rope, it works. Worse, the load where it suddenly comes of can sometimes be quite high, imitating a strength, it doesn't have when really needed! This should ALWAYS be told, when teaching this knot!

Huh?
@yodan00b
Жыл бұрын
@@playgroundchooser I'm not positive (looks like a bad case of the 'Google translates') but I think they are saying that the knot can be dangerous when tied this way because it can fail by having a heavy or sharp load put on the the loop before the knot has been capsized and properly cinched.. I have tied the bowline like this for years and making sure that the tail capsizes through the first loop is the one thing that you do have make sure of before loading the knot, otherwise you effectively just have a slip knot on the working end of an open loop. just make sure you properly cinch the knot before loading it and you should be fine.

We used bowling knots to tie cattle lead ropes to a post. They can't break it and it's easily undone. We didn't do it like this though. With this method if the orientation of the knot doesn't flip right then it can slip out. With the method we used it is already in the right orientation when you finish. You can also double the bowline if you leave enough tail. My dad spelled it bolin.

I call that the cat's-eye method. I'm probably not gonna explain this well, but here we go... if you do the cat's eye mid-line on a pull rope but then (instead of the working end) you use a bar, wrench or other tool to pass through the eye, you get a T-handle -- especially great for an anchor man. When you need to move the handle, simply slip the bar out and the knot will fall apart. Then just recreate the cat's eye in the new location, slip in the bar and you are ready to go again.

How strong is this knot? Can I, to put it exaggeratedly, use it to tow a car?
@gaaberu5728
Жыл бұрын
It's the perfect knot for cases like this because no matter how strong the tension is, it will hold and still be super easy to untie. However it is important to remember it is SO easy to untie that if the tension is not constant you risk having it untie itself on it's own. For this reason, you should consider what is shown here as the incomplete version of the knot, or the first step. Second step is "securing" the knot: you have to fasten the loose end. Coil it twice around itsefl AND the rope it runs parallel to, run it inside the loops you just made and pull hard enough. Then you're good to go 👍 Not sure I explained clearly (English is not my first language...) but i hope you get the idea.
