This is how I ran my set at a house party recently, but by clicking mouse on sections that were specific mixes of songs, while I live mixed & played synths & guitar over them. Never thought to map to midi - brilliant, thanks !

Thanks so much, Will. Finding you / your site / this channel I can see will exponentially (or logarithmically?) increase my modest Ableton capacity. You make everything straightforward without talking down to people, and this particular video hits the spot. I did synth programming with FM sound design and onboard sequencing back in the 90s with my trusty SY99 synth workstation, and believe me, triggering tracks in live performance with a classical soloist was nerve wracking and tricky. Jump ahead 30 years (!!!!!!) and I am starting to use backing tracks for my own theremin performance. Can't use pedals or quickly touch a controller as they influence your body's capacitance and thus pitch (and both hands are required while playing). I recently purchased a Genki Wave (bluetooth MIDI controller), which I will mess around with today using your excellent suggestions. The DJ crowd is much larger than the solo classical musician subgroup, so great to see that you make suggestions for everyone. Cheers! Thanks for all of your great work!

So we should use the A key to add locators wherever there is a marker...every time we imports a song into. a Live set? You mentioned an automatic way too?

I like this option but is there a way to repeat a section or go back to other parts of the song earlier in the section? For example in Session view advancement templates the track can be playing say the chorus after the bridge but we want to go back to the bridge again. I can move the cursor line up to the line before the bridge and the track will auto drop down once the chorus is over (next midi clip) and drop back up to the bridge or the next line. I can move the cursor at anytime while the track is playing and at the end of each line it drops to the next line or the next line below where I place the cursor. Trying to move to previous or next within 1 bar can be difficult when you are the one playing, signing, and directing all at the same time. this is why I like session view but I would rather run arrangement view if I had the option to move between sections of the song earlier than just the last bar of the section. Thanks for any guidance.

Hi. I love what you’re talking about. I wish I could see where exactly you were clicking. Maybe with zoom or something like that? Nuff love and thanks 🙏🏾

You can’t just throw out that comment that Ableton can create locators for you, and leave us hanging without that info! 😅 Lol great content as always man, I would greatly appreciate it if you can go into depth on that topic!

this is precisely what we need! when we are singing and leading the church to sing the Lord! Can I apply that in the MIDI foot controller?

I have a problem when I add locators to all sections of all songs in my set, and when I do that my tracks start to get stuck, maybe it's because there are too many locators in the set, but how can I fix that?

Locators don’t have any effect on the CPU or loading of your set. That’s other issues

Can we use multiple midi controllers at once for this? We're a spirit filled church and there are many times the singers will take extra time on verses, etc. but there are also times where I or the keyboard player will want to repeat sections for emphasis. It would be nice if we could use three controllers so everyone is able to make that choice on the fly.

Yeah, same question: let’s say I have a drums break, where I want to let the audience sing along as long as the lead singer wants to, is there a way to enable a loop from one marker to the next? Thanks :)
