All the Alocasia I’ve put in PON from my own grown corms are loving it. Transferred them from soil to PON has been about 50/50 and the ones that have made it took a hit before starting to recover.

Good to know! Thanks for sharing. Have you tried stratum to pon before? I transferred a couple over from soil and a couple baby corms that were growing in stratum and so far I think the stratum ones seem to be doing well. I feel like the soil ones seem more mushy like in a way.

Agree. My colocasia didn’t like the move at all. It has died back completely, but hoping she grows back. I did lose at least 1 leaf per plant, but they have bounced back.

Hi Melissa, your favourite plants this month are all worthy of your “obsession” with them, I certainly would be anyway. I was just looking at your new flooring near the end of the video and wondered whether it creates more reflected light than the carpet did. I’m sure it’s much easier when it comes to plant care etc. Thanks for sharing this month’s favourites.

Hi Melissa, love your faves line-up for June 👏🏼 I would love it if you could do another video specifically for Maranta varieties and their care. I have the "Rabbit Tracks" one. It's leaves are small and the blotches are faded. It is however pushing out new leaves despite it being winter 🤷🏻♀ Your leaves are massive!!! Also just wanted to say that pon is very expensive here in Australia so I've been using LECA (semi-hydro) for my Alocasia collection and they are going really well...my Regal Shield just gave me a massive leaf! The only one I have in pon is my Melo as it came with the small Lechuza planter I bought for it. Your Jade Satin is to die for too 👌🏼🥰

A tip from an orchid channel here, which works great is to put a layer of bark on top of the moss to help keep the moisture in and the algae down. I tried it on an orchid, loved it, and works on everything you keep in moss.

I am absolutely convinced that alocasias love pon! I am not a super experienced plant person, not like you anyways, and I was scared of alocasia and the Alocasia curse of “one in one out”. Now, whenever I get one I don’t even wait a day to put her in pon. So far all of them are thriving. I have a polly, a maharani (that came with a leaf that was starting to yellow and since then it never progressed any more), a black velvet and now a frydek that I got a few days ago. She is already shooting a new leaf since the repot! Good luck with your Jacklin! It’s gorgeous! Can’t wait to get one myself 🪴💚

I had the same story with my maranta, she was so full and beautiful and got infected with thrips from a plant I brought from a plant store. You did a great job refraining from obsessed lol however I think you just substituted it with beau-T-iful 😂❤ still love you and your content! Also, with pon…. I highly recommend adding some amendments to lighten it up so the roots can move through the substrate more easily. I add chunky perlite and leca because I find that pon can sometimes be heavy for some root systems. The other thing I like to do is do a leca layer at the bottom so that it makes more air pockets to allow for more oxygen to aid in the root growth! Good luck my girl! 🪴
@plantsbymelissa
Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the pon tips!! I'll definitely try that. I was thinking just yesterday that the alocasia I have in a clear Starbucks cup seems like the roots are squished lol. And yes, I think you're right about the beautiful word haha 🙈

@@plantsbymelissa your welcome!! Yes, I learned the idea from @unplantparenthood on KZitem! She calls it the parfait method. She uses all types of substrates and mixes/layers them in different ways in no drainage vessels. And I find by doing that, my roots are way healthier than just pon or leca alone. But I do use drainage on a lot of them as of now, slowly transitioning to no drainage.

I’d like to invent some new adjectives to describe your plants because the existing ones that I’m aware of are all inadequate to capture your plants. Incredible, gorgeous, superb and fantastic are close but not quite strong enough. Too bad Dr Seuss is no longer with us because I bet he could invent some adequate adjectives. Maybe a simple “wow” is all that’s necessary, I’m not sure. Dr Seuss would agree that green eggs, green ham, green leaves all seem to fit together nicely. Thanks for the video.
