The June Lake Loop is a 16-mile scenic drive that follows a horseshoe shaped canyon containing four lakes.
If traveling clockwise, first up will be June Lake!
It’s easy to see why this is nicknamed the Swiss Alps of California!
Fish, hike, picnic or just hang out on one of June Lake’s sandy beaches. Canoeing, kayaking and sailing on the crystal clear waters are also popular activities on the mile-and-half long lake.
Be sure to read about the legend of the June Lake slot machines before getting back on the road!
You’ll then come to the resort town of June Lake. Grab a bite in one of a few restaurants, enjoy a brew from June Lake Brewing, and peruse charming shops as you walk around the quaint downtown area.
Next up is Gull Lake. This looks like a fabulous area to do some camping!
Continue on the road and keep your eyes peeled for Horsetail Falls.
Silver Lake is the 3rd lake you’ll come to. It’s a gorgeous backdrop to get out, stretch your legs, and do a little family photoshoot!
Of course, you can always extend your time on the loop by taking a hike on endless miles of trails surrounding the four lakes.
The fourth and final lake on the drive is Grant Lake. Due to the drought in California, the water level was shockingly low. The views were still incredible and we felt fortunate to see some wildlife during our drive on the loop!
We enjoyed the drive so much, we turned around and did it again in the other direction.
We’d love to visit again in the fall, because we hear the foliage along the loop is something not to be missed!
