I loved Dandelion Wine! I didn’t think I would, considering how I felt about Something Wicked This Way Comes. Fidelity was so good! It felt like my childhood - a beautiful picture of Kentucky!

Yay Fidelity!! Those ss are in my collections! I just love his writing! It reminds me so much of growing up (the location). My favs for June were the first part of Kristin Lavransdatter and Dune and The Blue Star.

@@Coffee_and_a_Book I hope you enjoy Vera when you read it! It seems like people who read more mysteries than I do tend to rate it more highly 😂 I still thought it was fun though! I still need to go on with Aggie Morton! I liked book 1.

@@beautifulminutiae I liked the second Aggie Morton more than the first, but it's also a locked-room mystery, so that's probably why.

I got to visit The Berry Center last month and met his granddaughter. She recommended Fidelity as a great entry point to his fiction. I’m reading a different short story collection of his called: How It Went and also read Andy Catlett. I listened to Malcolm Guite recite two of Berry’s poems and it solidified my love of his writing.

I’m so happy you enjoyed Dandelion Wine. I’ve been thinking about it too. Mainly when Great Grama is dying and talking to Douglas about memory. With the death around me recently it has come crashing back in - but is most welcome to do so. Berry is a ying-yang for me. Love his settings and characters initially. But! I can only take so much of their grief. & then the characters, at some point, use language/make choices make me grieve😅 I real want to read the Gogol published portion of Dead Souls now! Going to add it for the cozy months ahead.

Bradbury is so comforting in times of grief and death. I feel like his words are so healing and poignant! I can understand why Berry isn't for you. I've talked to a few people besides you who prefer his nonfiction. I haven't read a full novel of his yet, so maybe I'll feel differently once I get there, but his short stories were perfection for me!

I'm so bummed! Thats what I would want to have for Teddy Roosevelt! I love David McCullough (so far I've read 1776 and John Adams, and I assigned my daughter the Brave Companions last year and she gave it 3.75 (nonfiction isn't her favorite. LOL)

Well, Volume 1 is finished, but the story isn't complete as he intended it to be three volumes. Volume 2 is the one that feels really disjointed.

Another Booktuber I watched gave Shark Heart 5 stars, but I trust your thoughts on it and I'll pass. Lol. My favorite read in June was Piranesi, followed up by We, which was surprisingly good. I like it even better than 1984.

@@Dinadoesyoga to be fair, I think I’m in the minority for Shark Heart. It had a fairly high goodreads rating when I last checked. But I just couldn’t take it seriously 😂 I love Piranesi! I hope to read We in September! It’s high praise to put it above 1984!

Ooo, that's interesting. I'm wondering if his biographies on specific people are different, because the Teddy Roosevelt book didn't feel that way at all! But you're right that The Pioneers hopped all over the place as well.

@beautifulminutiae that actually might be right because I LOVED learning about John Adams from his bio...maybe he's just more successful at that haha. But I think I remember feeling like even that was difficult to follow for me 😅 I hung in there though bc I was loving learning about Adam's!
