I’ve watched the whole series in one day and it’s extremely sad the entirety of it:( but quite a few good laughs too in amongst the dark :)

Hi Kiran, Firstly I’m so sorry that you’ve had to go through that racist crap! I’m someone who has spent a lot of time in hospital as a patient and I’ve seen and heard it from the room or bed next to me. It’s awful. The series is remarkable, and as a whole makes such important points about mental health and care for the people who care for us! It looks like it’s set up for a 2nd series also so it will be interesting to see where they go with it!

So the lift at the start is known as a Paternoster lift. They were more common in the past, and in the UK they were usually only found in private and not public buildings. For instance, university buildings often had them, the Arts Tower at Sheffield Uni still has a working example. I think in regards to hospitals they’re only used and present as a convenient lift for staff to get about and avoid the bustle of the building’s primary lifts.

The shortage of beds and waiting are the same in Canada. My late Mom got off a flight in Buffalo NY and couldn't walk so I took her to a VA hospital since her late husband was retired military. They kept apologizing for the wait which was not long. I finally told the Dr about a patient I used to see that waited 9 months to have a surgical repair of a rectal prolapse. As you might say in the UK, he was gob smacked. I'm now retired from being a RN.🇨🇦

Great breakdown! This was darker than I was expecting seeing as the majority of the book had a much lighter tone. Brought back a lot of memories of working in medicine. I'm going to try and review more episodes this week, but I'm wondering how traumatic it's going to be 😬

Yeah agreed, it’s a really dark series and a slightly different tone from the book. I’m also kinda sad they missed the years of him being a super new doctor!

Dr. Kiran, greetings from a huge fan! Could you please please tell me which countries a UK trained doctor can practice in? After finishing residency and training in UK, can one go practice in Australia, Singapore, etc? Maybe elaborate a little bit on the pathways too?

I'd really like to see a video on how you think the system might have improved or worsened since the point in time this series is based on. Especially since I'm an IMG currently preparing for plab, and this series kind of demoralised me quite a bit.

Great video! Been enjoying the series, in which Adam is commonly called the 'acting registrar' by his consultant. What is meant by this?
@Kiran.Morjaria
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lewis! So surgical training goes: FY1, FY2, CT1, CT2, ST3/4/5/6/7, Consultant Each grade take a year to progress to the next, as an FY or CT doctor you’re a ‘house officer’ or ‘senior house officer’. As a ST doctor you’re a registrar which is the grade before consultant. There are only a certain number of training positions so you can progress up these ranks, so Adam isn’t in a training post he’s working as an ST3 doctor but is likely that he either isn’t in training or hasn’t passed his exams yet!

I’ve watched all this series, it’s brilliant and really let’s us see how doctors work. I know it was a few years ago that it was set in and hopefully it’s changed, I’m a domestic and work on the wards sometimes, you all look at the doctors and they look so young, or is it because I’m old 😂
