All those poor old race cars deserve to be restored, not left out in the woods like that. It's a freaking shame!

Story time: Back in the days my dad owned a 1972 pontiac firebird 400, he crashed it. For 500.- he sold it to a guy that fixed it up and build a mountain race car out of it. Exsactely 2 years later on the same day he didnt make a turn, he and the car drove off the cliff and thats where bouth died.

I was around and it was great! This was back when racing was really good. The driver's had personalities and so did the cars. The cars were actually built from something instead of a cookie cutter chassis built on a jig, with a cookie cutter aluminum body that doesn't look like anything and a motor built at some far away shop and shipped to the team. I still like local short track racing, but it's nothing like it was.

Something to dream about... Elma Speedway when it was still at the old fairgrounds. 5 furlongs, mile and a quarter. Flat and hard as rock. By the end of night there would be black streaks coming up out of turn 2 and turn 4. The groove. God help if you strayed too far from it, that clay was not very forgiving. Oh, the kid down in front hawking the racing news paper, well, that was me. And the guy that just won the 'A' main, well, that was my dad's best friend, driving a '56 Buick Special, that my dad built. Elma, Washington that is. Long ago and far away......

You probably were around for some of the “Cup cars” .... the Petty cars(42,43) aren’t from that long ago and most of the cars at the are from the last ten years or so.. the 00 looks like the one that McDowell dumped at Texas in practice
@TN-Vols-Fan
3 жыл бұрын
@@lesmawson7298 Not sure if you were replying to me or to Leonard Hopper. I'll soon be 62, so Lee Petty was before my time. I started keeping up with NASCAR around 1966, used to listen to it on the radio with my father before they were all televised. We used to go to all the local races and several NASCAR races. The 00 is the car the McDowell flipped in Texas. It's in Dale Jr's graveyard.

This video reminds of me of my dad who passed way a few years ago when he raced at GRANDVIEW Speedway back in the early 1960s when I was just a todler. GRANDVIEW Speedway is located in Becktelsville, Berks County, Pennsylvania and is still in operation today 60 years now. Its fast 1/3 mile high banked dirt track that runs 358 cubic inch Modifieds and Sportsmen Modifieds on Saturday nights from April to September with occasional shows with the Outlaw Enduro Car Series , Blast From the Past .Modifieds and Limited and 410 Sprint cars too.

Too bad all those type of cars in my country are all crashed into each other. What they do it’s they get a very fixable, drivable car from the 20s-80s and just strip them, then crash them. It’s awful. The worst part is, these are the cars that could be raced normally they are that good.

Most just need a decent engine and gearbox a lick of paint and hey presto it's breathing life again... I know these things as I'm a ex Banger Racer I know when a car is dead and when it isn't...
