As a Canuk I can tell you, Moose are extremely intelligent quadrupedal ungulates. They have an amazing memory and can remember individual persons. Many have compared the intelligence of a moose to that of a wild horse, yet unlike horses moose tend to be solitary for the most part. Most folks are afraid of a moose because of their imposing stature and of course they have seen videos of moose charging, for example: by a cow with calves or a male during the rut. During the Canadian winters Moose tend to be less grumpy and more appreciative of carrots or an apple accidentally dropped from your car while you are parked admiring them.

@@AriaIsara You don't get to pick and choose which of the laws that are on the books that you wish to obey. If you think that this law is worth changing, write to you're a local legislator with your thoughts about it. That being said, the statute clearly states that the prohibition against feeding wildlife is in effect and current as of January, 2024. Far from being some "meaningless" (as you put it) piece of arcane law, buried deep within an ancient and dusty tome of forgotten historical law, this statute is up to date and enforced, and for good reason. More people are attacked and injured or killed by aggressive moose habituated to humans than cougars and bears. Let that sink in.

Sometimes you have to asert a little dominance. I saw another video where a guy raised a stick over his head grunting at a moose while stepping toward it to scare it away while the girl he was with cowarded and tried running away. I'm not saying anyone can just do that but he was just applying a little pressure to tell the moose that wasn't OK.

When animals are hungry in the winter an apple snack is a joy. This looks like a fairly young moose. If he senses no fear he will probably stay calm. And the man can always close the door. An ungulate can't challenge that. A bear would be a very different customer.

If it really wanted to out of hunger, it can come back and break through since it sees you as non threatening (dominatable) to get to the source of yumyums. Like cattle, moose only have a dental pad and no upper teeth so they tend to “gulp” their food whole without chewing it. Apples aren’t typically part of their daily diet so it’s quite easy for an uncut apple to lodge in their throats when eaten whole. Choking to death on a treat fed by a human would be a horrible death for such a magnificent animal.

They said yes, so I got all excited walked up to the pen and as soon as they saw me the human, they all went running as far away from the fence as they could get, so I couldn’t pet them. @staceyschmidt3149

@@karamichael2577I concur with George's comment. Unless they're in dire distress, handling or feeding wild animals is a terrible idea. They become dependent on humans, and then when suddenly the human isn't available or gets tired of dealing with them, they're gone and the animal is left to relearn their wild animal habits. But worse than that is the fact that a large wild animal like this moose is actually really dangerous. And because they're wild, they're unpredictable, and it's likely that at some point they're going to have hormones raging and get in a mood and then they can stomp the daylights out of any human who doesn't get out of their way quickly enough. That puts them into the "menace" category. If they're not scared of humans because one has been cultivating a relationship by feeding the wild animal, they can perpetrate their bad mood on any human in the vicinity. Because of the dangers of that, some wild animals have to be killed to remove their danger to human communities after some dumb human has fed them and taken away their fear of humans like this person in this video.
