That's probably the most honest & upfront video I've seen from a content creator on YT for some time.

I'm not into Atari stuff at all, but you make it interesting. 😂 Thanks for making content, I know how time consuming and sometimes thankless it can be, but I really appreciate having nerdy stuff to watch. Make the stuff you want, when you want, and I'll watch it!

A nice catch-up (second channel? Podcast? ) and a refreshing insight. I can’t believe it’s already 4 years, but it has been good to watch the channel grow yet ‘keep it real’ as the young folk might say :)

Love your channel Rees. It’s clear how well looked after your collection is and I enjoy how you have a lot of personal appreciation for each item & system rather than just “look at all my stuff” like so many other KZitemrs. For me this is what retro gaming is about - our passion for owning, maintaining and learning more about certain systems that mean something to us personally. Your channel is the best example of this I have seen. Finally, I was an Amiga boy, but always had a fond glance at the ST and thought it was cooler 😁

Good stuff, Rees. I certainly appreciate your integrity and honesty, and I'm sure the rest of your audience does too. I still need to delve into your back catalogue (ooer missus, etc) and explore further, but I've definitely been enjoying your recent stuff. It's always good to enjoy the work of fellow Atari enthusiasts.

I don't mind if some youtubers mention about sponsors or ads but I prefer If they do it at the end of the video. Those kind of things at the beginning or in the middle are little bit annoying.

Great update Rees. Running a KZitem channel must be overwhelming at the best of times. I have the utmost respect for those that sacrifice the time and effort to entertain us. Concentrating on your core interests is definitely the best approach! Being a multiple Atari System owner I would say that wouldn't I. 👍

All good to hear, and completely understandable! The solar videos were definitely interesting, but I get your reasoning for taking them down for now. It's something I keep meaning to get into, perhaps next year... :) And I've not seen any of your rambling, so I'll head that way now.

It does not help that we have to say a video features sponsored items at the very start, so they watch an add before the video, an intro and then sponsor spot. I find it annoying myself so when I had to do that with the atari joystick video I was not surprised to see a big dip at that point.

Look at it this way: sponsor spots are under your control and a lot better than whatever kind of ads youtube wants to throw at people. And you are entitled to some revenue from your work. KZitems style of advertising really is cancer.

Thank you for your channel and this update. You have great content. You Tube Premium is expensive, but worth it, marginally to me because the advertising was getting I tolerable. That's a terrible motivation to get people to sign up , but it works, and I'm not about to set up my own video propagation medium.

Very understandable. Those viral videos that weren't exactly inside your box of passion must have been pulling the energy out of you. Especially when all those nasty internet trolls/warriors show up and start commenting. I did like those videos myself though as I am both a retro computer nerd and doing lots of solar and off grid-stuff as a hobby.

I came for the solar series, but stayed for the old-school tech. Personally I would have moved the solar series to another side-channel, at least they're giving you a small income, this could help in some small way to pursue your main interests. But I understand the reason, I have a small e-bike channel and I get a LOT of electronics questions, battery questions and some are very impolite and demanding. So I do understand where you're coming from. No I'm not un-subbing.🙂

Such off-core videos can really hurt the channel. People interested in such side topics often are not interested in main subject of the channel and do not watch "normal" videos. This cause algorithm to "think" that your channel is not worth promoting.

It's a shame you had to take the solar videos down. For people that put negative comments... Do us a favour and upload videos with the "correct" way to set it up. Muppets. Adverts don't really bother me to be honest, I know it helps support the creators. Something we have to live with unfortunately.

That was a huge decision to take down some of your most profitable videos, but after your explanation it makes perfect sense. Thanks for keeping it real... For a while I was afraid that you'd switch the focus of the channel from Atari computers to solar panels. (Don't get me wrong it was interesting to see how you did it and I was considering getting some panels to save on electric cost) But there are a lot of other KZitemrs that are so focused on getting clicks, likes and even KZitemr of the Month votes that they make the channel about themselves instead of what people really came on in the first place...the content. And I'm glad to hear that you and other content makers get more money from Premium subs than ads so I'll keep on paying for it. (YT Music is also a bonus IMHO).

I don't think there's an issue with you or other youtubers taking indirectly related sponsorships. I know that it takes a lot of time and money to put together these videos so there's no shame in doing an ad which people can skip manually if they wish.

I seriously don't get why people criticise creators for mentioning patreon or memberships. They are free to mention it and we are free to not pay it. I feel it is a typical British thing to apologise for mentioning it 😊. On a side note I did think KZitem Premium was a bit expensive but i rationalise it by getting the family plan and then sharing it with a few family members, and it replaced my wife's Spotify individual premium plan so it feels less expensive - plus I watch a lot of YT. Liked and subbed to the channel - good luck

Regarding enabling ads, Fran Blance (FranLab) has put out videos with charts and stats showing there was a point where she was without monetisation, all was fine, then the views tanked. She turned ads on, KZitem started promoting her content again and the views returned.

I came to your channel awhile back because nobody on KZitem shows atari computers and you have done an amazing job with it. It was weird you knew rmc because I was already watching him. You know don't worry about experimenting with different content because I know lgr has done a wide variety from food to thrifts which the ladder is awesome. I love watching where you retro guys go places so that might be an idea. But keep up the awesome work in the retro community.
