Bearing application engineer from Timken here. It’s always refreshing to see companies putting out content to help educate customers on their products. It’s not easy to roll thru 35 minutes of bearing overview. Covering multiple bearing types, keeping their features straight, providing real life experience, and referencing roller bearing manufacturers engineering manuals and figures was well done. I’m not going to spend time on factually incorrect statements here, even tho you asked us to, but if you guys ever want to discuss bearings let me know. Again, job well done.

We shoot every video one take…boom done. There are lots of things I missed, things I should have clarified more, etc. that will be for another day. One of the things I LOVE about doing these videos are the connections I’ve made AFTER posting. Heck yeah I want to talk to you! How do we make this happen.

I can confirm that deep groove ball bearings are limited in how much axial load that they can handle. I pressed the outer races too far into each side of a motorcycle wheel hub. The distance between the inner races was set by a spacer. It took about 100 miles before the balls came out of a bearing AND punctured thru to the outside of the hub. $$$+++
Any news on when a steering rack for tacoma is coming out?

Thanks for the great videos! Why are flat thrust bearings not used? I don't see them in automotive applications.

You will see them used in motors on the crank to keep a torque converter from pushing the crank through a block (I leaned about those the hard way 15 years ago). You could run a helical gear with a cylindrical roller and a thrust bearing on either side but you would also need thrust washers so you just added 6 parts to each gear and the package got wider by probably 3/4”. Wider and more expensive and if it’s not broken don’t engineer it till it is 😜
