Fun fact: The sliding method you talked about is called "raking" in the Guitar Hero/Clone Hero community, where it's needed to strum many times in quick succession. It's called that because, to double the efficiency again, they do it with two (or more) fingers at once, so for each move back and forth you get two strums down and two strums up.
@copper4eva
3 жыл бұрын
They actually get 4 strums every cycle when using 2 fingers. These guitar hero guitars have springs in them, and some of them richochet back when you flich the strum bar, registering two strums. It's called overstrumming. That's why wii guitars are so popular now, because they do this very consistently.

there is actually another method that was found somewhat recently in the Tetris community called 'rolling'. this involves the player holding the controller in such a way that fingers can be 'rolled' against the back of the controller (not dissimilar to the 8-fingers method) to get a large number of inputs per second. This was originally done on a NES controller, and extremely difficult at that, so who knows if it's even viable elsewhere. It's still a cool mention

Super interesting video! As mentioned by someone else, the Guitar Hero/Clone Hero community has many mashing methods that share similarities. There is one particular variation of sliding that we refer to as "meme raking" because since Clone Hero can run at several thousand FPS, the game cease to be the limiting factor for inputs per second (controller poll rate remains though). As a result, "meme raking" which is sliding several fingers across a button back and forth, can and has achieved ludicrous speeds. Guitar Hero controllers have a friendly shape for using this method and with 4 fingers and a tricky setup (angling your hand so that your nail and fingertip both register an input, very inconsistent and impractical as you can imagine), over 60 inputs per second on a single button is achievable. I'm unaware of the current record because today's meta involves controllers with a poll rate of 1000hz and that can lead to a lot of hardware overhits but I have done over 40 on a 240hz controller (my personal best and former record is 72 on a 1000hz guitar, difficult to validate the true amount of human inputs lol).

The 2 thumb technique is harder for me to do as I am left handed in certain scenarios but I do have a workaround. I can get to 160 in Domination using my method. Basically, I hold the GameCube controller upside down, put my middle finger through the hole between the dpad and c stick, and I use my left hand to hit the a button and move the controller into my right thumb. It looks weird but it works. And I do have other methods for stuff like a Switch pro controller too. Anyways good video

The two thumb method seems to depend on the controller quite a bit. My go to method is to wedge the controller between my knees and use two index fingers, which gets me like 120ish on mario party 4 domination. With two thumbs, I get something similar with my sn30 pro+, but if i switch to the regular sn30 pro, I get like 140-160.

I tend to use a guitar picking rotating wrist motion, sort of seesaw bouncing between the back of the controller and the button. Its my go-to comfortable method, though ill 2-finger or vibrate depending on the situation. If its just mashing, like the mario party wind up, i usually just alternate hands quickly. I don't know if this counts as a technique, but on computer I alternate on a single key between my second index finger and my middle finger by pressing with one at the same time I pull the other one upwards, and then I alternate. I think you could do this on console too. Do anybody else do this too or am I just the only one ? I manage to do up to 10 hits per second, but it might be possible to do more.

Hey! Yeah that is another technique, I left it out because I just didn't think it was worth mentioning in the same video as the other stuff. FlyHec actually does the same method too. Also in the rhythm game osu, people play by alternating 2 keys like how you described! kzitem.info/news/bejne/qI5vmWiNoX2lg6Q
@myrmyxo
4 жыл бұрын
@@silverboxxer Yeah ! I don't really know osu! very much, but I see some streamers doing this too, sometimes even with three keys. It's very useful as it only uses one hand, especially for osu where you use a mouse or a tablet. It's also very easy to "setup" as a method, and you can even perform other action like moving (on a PC platform game for example) with your other hand or jumping so it's pretty useful. I don't speedrun IWBTG, but to make the final boss go to subphase one very quickly after he makes the flames column go up, I just put myself in the smallest distance possible away from him and I shoot him with the two fingers method. It's possible for me to do it on the same computer key ( ' key for me ) so it's very useful, but I don't know if people with bigger fingers might be able to do it if not on the spacebar. Your video was very interesting also, I didn't know ay of these methods. Thank you very much for it , it was very useful, have a nice day and good luck for the rest !

Hi Silverbawxer, it'd be useful if you were to make a guide on Nintendo DS button mashing. Or answer me with your opinion. Specifically I run Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics DS. The game forces you to button mash L and R in several events. Other events force you to button mash several buttons, like Bobsleigh, but mashing L and R is majorly challenging. L and R are the buttons at the back of the console. Far apart from each other. The game requires you to mash both, so tricks that use both hands are not an option. You can turn the console around and play the game by looking at the screen in a mirror, or use sound to play, close half of the lid, and so on, but it does not make it easier.
@silverboxxer
