I must agree. There is no waitlist, so I didn't even bother waiting. I did my research, took my time hunting, and managed to get my Batman on the secondary at a decent price with a big chunk of warranty still intact.

Wow, 3 years wait? My AD offered it to me 3 days after I first asked for it. No purchase history, no follow-up, no dressing up, nothing. I was genuinely interested in this watch, and perhaps that was all that was needed. I had a rough few weeks with it at first, but now I love it to death. It's easily the most worn watch in my collection, more than the Datejusts that came after.

When faced with unhelpful Rolex AD's, reward the competition. I recently bought a Longines Spirit Zulu, and love it.
@steelsteez6118

That makes no sense. You going to a different brand is not a backlash toward the unhelpful AD, it's a backlash toward the brand. Rolex isnt the one allocating their watches to end consumers; the ADs are. Common sense logic would dictate that if you wanted to actually "reward the competition when faced with unhelpful Rolex ADs", you would go to a different Rolex AD that's not owned by the same company (not go out and buy an inferior product from a different brand).

Congratulations! I was not going to comment but your experience with your AD resonated with me. My situation is the same, or probably worse. I have a substantial purchase history but ever since my SA left, it’s been crickets. I was assigned to another which his follow up game is non existing. It’s funny how these AD’s want purchase history, then you have it and they pretty much ignore you.

Dang! Maybe I just got super lucky with my Rolex purchases. I went to a few ADs from whom I have never purchased anything back in February to place my name on the “list.” And just last week I got the call and went to pick it up the next day. It was a DJ36 with the blue motif dial which is one of the sought-after dial colors in recent years. After picking up the DJ36 for my wife, I told the salesperson that I’m interested in adding the OP41 with celebration dial to my collection. He immediately said this special dial is very tough to get. Let’s see how long I have to wait this time, keeping my fingers crossed!

The problem with ASEAN ADs... they are mostly ruled by the big conglomerates, being The Hour Glass, and Cortina. There is a couple of family owned ADs in SG, Watch Palace and Kee Hing Hung. The Valiram Group in MY also has a big chunk of the biz, however, they also has a huge AD in Sentosa with many huge clients from the region. If you add in TH, Pendulum has a JV with The Hour Glass, with only King Power the other competitor, however mostly limited supply to airport and tourist location. In ID and PH, it is mostly localized ADs, however, they don't get as much supply as ADs in SG, being the distribution hub of ASEAN rolex.

I waited 4 months for my 124270. I thought the Explorer would be the end of my collection needs. I loved the way the watch looked, and fell in love with everything about the 124270 ONLINE. After 7 months I sold the watch. It never felt quite right. Ir felt too small, the 14 tapered bracelet, although very well made, felt diminutive. I just could get used to the size of the watch. Unfortunately because I really wanted to like this watch.

The size is perfect for my small 6in or 15.2cm wrist. I perfect the case shape over my maxi case OP36. I understand that 36mm may not be for all. Maybe you can try the new 40mm 224270.

Experience is the same as Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand. It is about how well your "elavator speech" within the first couple of mins go. Most that you don't click well with would give off that "vibe" you're better off walking out. No harm no foul. If you happen to vibe with the SA, they'd tell you what they could sell out of the back of storage. Mostly datejust, especially Two Tone, including Wimbledon. Savings might be worth the while if the country's exchange rate is worse than the ringgit, along with tax refund. Good luck.

Congrats man! There's never been a waitlist, of course. Nor is it connections. But it is a whole lot of other variables. Purchase history alone doesn't do it. Recency of the purchases play into the equation too. So does how the customer projects himself/herself, whether previous purchases involved a lot of haggling, etc. Basically, when there are more people wanting Rolexes than there is to go around, allocations go to the "best" customers... ie. those who have spent, spend often, spend easily, and are expected to continue to spend, spend often, and spend easily. Also, the human relationship counts a lot ie. whether there is chemistry and whether the SA and customer like each other.

A D's are crap, I bought an Explorer from a grey dealer as I got sick of waiting and paid $2000 AUD over the retail price. I went to the AD and asked if they could check the watch and serial number to make sure it was the real thing and the sales person said they do not know enough about them to authenticate the watch and suggested that I take it to the same grey dealer that I purchased it from as they were more experienced at spotting a fake!

Technically you still paid above retail. 2023 had a couple of price increases, along with one more in the early part of 2024. You paid for a 2023 model (not sure which month), which means, assuming you meant paying 2024 retail price, you did pay more than the retail of the model when it was sold. However, you could instead view it as a cheaper purchase where the Ringgit in 2023 was worth more than it is in 2024... Hence you actually paid below retail 😂. Anyway, enjoy that new watch.
