I'm on board with that. I'm not a go pro guy,,,,, cuz seriously I'm not a cinematographer and I'm not gonna win awards with my flight vids, but sometimes I like to watch or even post some of my own footage. On a side note. Love your channel Stu. Keep up the good Work. Cheers from the USA!

You missed the biggest advantage of these: you can record the camera feed before the OSD gets overlaid. You can't do that with a DVR on the receiver side.

Try soldering a capacitor across the power for the DVR, should stop quick impact drop-outs from killing your file. Could even put a tiny FET across the button contacts so if the cap starts dropping, it trips the button to save the file before supply drops out completely. Cheap hack, also gets the benefit of saving every time you pull the battery so you don't need to chop up the chassis to reach the button as well as the SD

The cap might as well just be across the 5v rail on the FC in that case. If you want to protect the DVR from brownouts you'd need a cap across its power AND a diode inline with its +5v wire.

On a 2S quad, you really should power your DVR with a Pololu S7V7F5 because it's a buck/boost 5v regulator it doesn't care when the voltage dips lower than 5v buck regulators can cope with.

Nice just got that Runcam dvr01 yesterday. Me I hot glued the Hawk Eye Fire Fly Micro Cam to the top canopy on my ET125. Shoots 1080p/30fps. Dont no if I wanna cut into the canopy just yet, video looks way better then the DVR. Great job , happy flying

I'm thrilled for this trend towards onboard video recording like the RunCam Split and the Caddix, etc... I absolutely HATED putting a GoPro on my quads, and the more options like this, the better! I'm using a the Split Mini in my Rooster, and was planning on getting another for my AstroX, but I think I'm gonna try the Caddix for that (not just for miniquads!). As for this, for $18 US you can't beat it.

I tried the mini HMDVR on my et100 and found that the 5v Bec wouldn't supply enough current to run my vtx , cam, and the DVR. ( I was using the VTX03 that runs off 5v, not vbatt). So be careful not to overload your 5v supply from your FC, or you will have a reset.

To avoid battery brown-outs ruining the recording on a 2S quad, install & power the DVR from a Pololu S7V7F5 buck/boost 5v voltage regulator, it's freaking tiny at 12x9x3mm so should be installable on almost any quad.

Not just for Micro class...I just bought one with a Micro Eagle...excited to use it as a flight recorder/dash cam on my 210 Dquad Obsession with the 29mm cam adapter, Don't want a Gopro slowing down my 5" and reducing flight time!

You should check out the “Western Digital My Passport”, hard drive that has a built in sdcard reader for auto copies in the field. Also inclides wifi so you can download and check on your phone. Saves a trip back to the park or when you forget to erase your card.

HI Stew, Great video, Look like a good option if you can't fit a camera on top. to bad about your first try, that's the one problem with some of those they should at less save weather you turn it of or you lose power. Thanks Stew for the information have a great week. JohnnyDRC

Im an ET100 owner & looking to get onboard DVR.... I like the idea of the runcam dvr board, but it's performance compared to the EV100DVR is a bit lack-luster.... Thinking the Eachine version, decased & de-plugged would be better- if only we could have the best of both! :/ ;)

im thinking the foxeer predator v2 would be my best option for camera on this. still new to the game, but starting my second ever build, and want to keep it as light as possible, while using the martian 215 frame (its heavy lol) im thinking this over the split is my best option, but what do you think would be my absolute best camera option? doesnt have to be a micro, camera and motors is where im not saving weight lol

Winter in Australia seems still suitable for flying IMHO. No snow and rain. Any ideas how to upload usual DVR video (NTSC or PAL, 720x480/576) in KZitem without turning it into blurry square fest? MJPEG and MPEG4 picture quality drop after uploading is awful. Converting to 720p or 1080p doesn't help. I seen some definitely good 480p (NTSC) DVR uploads, but still didn't figure how that become possible. Some magic MPEG4 settings?

This comes with a harness so you can just plug it in to the camera and unplug it to move it to another quad, you totally cut it off and soldered it straight to the f/c.

Bit useless. At 90mm it bumps the weight up 10%, is limited by the lens of the camera, doesn’t battle the compression any better than the DVR on goggles does and brown outs kill the footage. Battery powered, better quality 720p solution costs about 6g and doesn’t require soldering is out there at or near the same pricerange, so it doesn’t have much going for it nowadays. Good product, some years too late. Maybe a niche product for those trying to save the last cent, running goggles without a DVR or to people testing the cameras but to most people it’s probably going to be a meh. Personally I like the static on the DVR, makes the footage look authentic and shows the viewer the shit you have to fly through.
