When darkness falls, the sky starts revealing what the powerful glare of the sun was hiding. Millions of bright stars huddled together in clusters, streaks of light made by the comets and other heavenly bodies hurtling from one end to the other, and many other celestial bodies yet to be identified. Night skies have been a human fascination from the moment they appeared on the planet.
The heavens/sky is filled with more than meets the eye. Things you will see up there include these, moon, and stars of which some group together in constellations. The Milky Way is pretty incredible to see as well. Man made things abound out there as well. These include satellites, the International Space Station, high altitude balloons, and possibly other things. At lower altitudes are all kinds of planes that are used by the military, those used commercially, and private planes and aircraft. All these planes vary in size, the speed at which they can travel, and the number of engines they have. Planes vary where they can land as well--on runways, on aircraft carriers and other ships, or they even land on water. Helicopters and other types of flying machines include hot air balloons and ultralights and such can be seen in the sky.....just look up!
We love using an ap to track flights in the sky. Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, we look forward to tracking the top secret JANET flights to and from the Gold Coast in Las Vegas to Area 51, the Test Site, and Mercury.
Incredible clouds, rain, snow, hail, and rainbows, as well as lightning are also seen in the sky. If you live in the right area, you could be treated to seeing the Northern Lights.
There are even more things found in the sky.....just look up!
Sadly the night sky is vanishing! It is getting harder and harder to fully view the night sky in its natural state thanks to interference with artificial lights that urban centers emit. Light pollution has become a problem for astronomers forcing them to set up stations in places as far away from human settlements as possible. The Milky Way for example is massive enough to be seen by almost everyone on earth. However, light pollution has blocked that from a third of humanity. Cities have become so big that their lighting creates skyglow that is too strong for natural light in the sky, obscuring visibility.
While there are are areas still with dark skies, take the time to look up and enjoy the sky!
