As an American physician with an interest in how governments reacted to the pandemic, I’ve been watching many of these hearings. I’ve been impressed by the depth of the inquiry, the preparation of the questioners, and the frankness of many of the people who have been in the ‘hot seat’. Michael Gove comes across as arrogant, defensive, and less than frank in much of his testimony. He seems to feel his mission is primarily to defend Boris Johnson and cast his chaotic and unreliable leadership style as somehow heroic and above the ken of mere mortals. If this is any indication of his general character I would hope he wouldn’t hold a position of responsibility going forward.

I fully agree with you when you say Mr Gove is so arrogant, as he is not used to any one telling him to shut up. As I know that he might not be the only one who felt that way, all senior MPS who have been in that hot seat thinking the same thing, as it makes them feel embarrassed especially to people who are greatly respecting them, and believe that they are untouchable, including their families, e.g their wifes, children, etc as it is embarrassing, because the person who is asking them is unapologetically throwing those questions to them. Especially when the truth is told to them through the text messages they used to communicate with as those messages make it difficult for them to deny some of the questions. As some of the people could not hold themselves from laughing as the lawyer is doing that a little bit, as well. Maybe only that, will teach some of the people not to except higher position jobs, especially when their leader is some one who is a liar, does not take matters which his community is considering it serious.

I lost (through death) no friend or family member through the pandemic. However,my husband had a nervous breakdown ( isolated and working from home with no support from his superiors) this has now evolved into a stroke and he will probably never recover. My father, alone and isolated from his family and friends has lost his mobility and sociability. My grandchildren have suffered from lack of schooling (their parents were having to try to work from home ( genuinely) whilst trying to school, amuse and feed two 6 year old twins. I was considered essential services ( cleaning toilets) and worked throughout the pandemic. Thanks Tories you totally fucked up my family and our lives! 25:23 25:33

Your story is like so many others. It's not just those who suffered the most with the deaths of family members. That's just the tip of the obvious iceberg! It's so much wider than that with untold damage to families like yours as well. Long Covid sufferers, family businesses ruined, destitution for many families because people can't work any longer due to long term health outcomes. The human cost is truly staggering in scale. These people should pay for what they have done - all of it!

The wrong questions are being asked, Gove should have been asked how a virus travelled 5,000 miles from China to England(so they say) and yet when it arrived here refused to cross the borders into Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, because if you check the graphs for all cause mortality deaths it only spiked in England, in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland the deaths rates were completely normal, so it seems the virus was aware of borders which by the way is epidemiologically impossible, so those excess deaths which occured in England were caused by the hospital procedures that were carried out on them and not covid.
