I've always wanted a hot Corvair. I drove a 1967 Monza once in a while, a girlfriend's ride, a birthday gift from her father (rich girls have nice cars). Both the car and the girl were a lot of fun. The father, not so much. He persuaded her to break up with me. I missed the Monza the most.😉

As always John a great video. Clark’s Corvair is probably 30 miles from my house maybe less. Drive by once in a while. My neighbor one growing up had tons of these cars and he still has one with a 215 Olds aluminum V8 in between the seats I got a ride it when I was 15 I’m 55 now the car hasn’t really done anything in 40 years

You can heat 3XX stainless up to 650 F for stress relief without sensitizing the metal. This will remove some of the work hardening and allow further forming.

Another great video John just as I expected. I too am a lover of center exhaust tips. I would have never thought of expanding that tubing like you did, Brilliant idea. You must have the super deluxe belt sander, because mine doesn’t make screeching car noises when I sand. I’ll have to look into that. What’s next, the exhaust system? I hope so because I can’t wait to see your masterpiece.

Hey John, great craftsmanship on a the work you do. I do have a couple of questions thought. First question is why only one tip, are you going to run a single exhaust ? Second question, would it not have been easier to cut a piece of pipe (of the diameter you wanted the ends of the tip to be) in half then weld the flat sections (triangular shaped) between them? With your welding skills I would imagine it would have looked just as nice with a lot less work and it would have saved a lot of pipe that you cut up for the dies you used on the press.
@JohnReynolds661
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yeah it has a single turbo so only one 3-1/2" exhaust pipe. Most V8 conversions have two exhaust and well, I wanted to be a little different. Doing what you are describing with the half rounds was a thought but I wanted to a make it out of one piece that was forged with a die. If that didn't go well, then making it in pieces was a second option.
