The first comment after some time. Fewer than 100 views and 10 likes. It's quite amazing how the whisky world is really an internal sound bubble gossiping about itself. Don't despair John, I think it's great that you review things other than whisky. As it so happens I have a bottle of the Fortaleza Still Strength Blanco and Reposado. I left a comment to Liquor Hound when he reviewed these, that the Tequila elephant in the room is the low abv and that strength has to improve if tequila is to be taken seriously by spirit connoisseurs. I have to confess to having a soft spot for Fortaleza. I love the hand blown bottle and painted agave stopper. I also love the label with its classy old school Spanish style look instead of the predictable, often cliched, marketing of other brands. Just as well I like spirit as well, which is made in the old style as it should be. I want that vegetal note which reminds me of mezcal; tequila's beautiful sibling. I love your conclusion; both good for different reasons. However, I think the whisky man in you recognises the no nonsense, dare I say, Campbelltown style of Fortaleza. I think that high abv in the Calle seduces you somewhat. I'm not knocking the Calle and wish more tequila was bottled at higher strength. It's hot off the still so no angels share or the like. Fortaleza gives me the agave the way the best mezcals do and that is a top compliment. Excellent review John. Cheers. WT

You made my day. Thanks for your words and observations. Agree the Fortaleza is the Campbeltown of Tequila. A more acquired tasting experience. Cheers Welch 🥃 Thanks for the encouraging words.

Criollo is fabulous! Goes to show the more modern techniques & tools can still make great tequila, as much as I tend to prefer the image and flavours of more traditional products.
