Our country is an absolute mess right now...specifically our justice system. I feel bad for people in Chicago, Illinois once 2023 comes around. Starting January 1st, burglary, kidnapping, robbery, 2nd-degree murder will no longer require bail. If you're caught, you'll be arrested and released (most likely same day) until you go to court. Our criminal justice system and death penalty needs a huge overhaul. Too many politics involved and too many law hands in the pot. Granted more than 14K people have been legally executed since colonial times, most of them in the early 20th Century. By the 1930s, as many as 150 people were executed each year. By 1967, capital punishment had virtually halted in the United States, pending the outcome of several court challenges i.e. 1972 Furman v. Georgia and 1976, Gregg v. Georgia, the Court resuscitated the death penalty. And the list goes on and on, state by state death penalty laws suck, especially in cases such as this, my opinion!!
