Clifford's view is one among many in the family of Evidentialism. Evidentialism holds that beliefs are legitimately held only in proportion to evidence. Believing despite contrary evidence, believing on little evidence, believing without evidence -- these (depending on how evidence is understood) are all prohibited by this view. Not all Evidentialists hold to Clifford's view, however.
