Amazing how Justin Kan CEO creator of Justin.tv & twitch.TV mentioned my AKA "Mooncricket" name as one of their original content creators that helped them launch their site back in 2007. I was beta tester life caster number 4. in order starting with number 1 Justin, 2 ijustine, 3 Parris Harris, 4 beto Lopez myself, 6 Sarah Austin. I can't remember who was number 5. Anyways each week a new selected creative content person channel would launch while the world would watch us stream live with a camera on us mobile anywhere we would go. Long before facebook live, youtube live or periscope justin/twitch was the first and original and people thought we were crazy streaming our lives 24/7. Some of y'all might remember when I had set up Stephon Marbury of the New York Nicks at the time in 2009.
He didn't understand the technology after I told let me set you up. So Justin gave me the equipment needed to take to Stephon since he would be the first celebrity to do this. The media including ESPN and TMZ thought Marbury was crazy to share his life for the world to see with no management. What Snoop dogg and many people do online all the time is normal but when Stephon messed up not knowing the camera was off they had us both on TMZ several times and ESPN saying he is crazy. Marbury and I still joke and laugh how innovated we were to be a part of history with Justin/twitchTV. Now millions of people are on it and they have no idea what the site was original about when it was first launched. It was originally about life casting your life like the movie Your Truman show with Jim Carry. Funny thing that is how I met Justin in 2007. I was working in San Francisco as a content creator for a company called The Truman Show next store to their 2nd office but I met him when they were at their first office at their house near the Mission District in San Francisco.
For our website at the Truman show was about creating stories differently that youtube as youtube had just launched just before us, so we had competition. My assignment lead by Mateo and James Tieser was to film Justin at his home which was also their office. During his interview he showed me the white board of their plans while Emmett Shear, Michael Seibel & Kyle Vogt where working hard at the living room table working on the new justin site for new users. There were only 2 names on the white board and it was ijustine and Parris Harris. He said they plan to launch new content creators or interesting bloggers that want to stream their life for the world to see.
That's when I told him about what i do and all the filming and places I go with breaking and roller skating. Justin took a look at my work and then told his team to set me up with a justin.tv back pack camera and small sony vio computer. He asked me to write down my channel name and then he added my name to the board. I continued to do more work with Justin and his team and our first group beta team were perfect for them cause I would go into their new office once block from my office near the caltrain station and what ever bug issues I had Emmett or Kyle would fix them for me in person and done. They were so quick. I was always impressed how each month their office would grow and more new smart employees fo tech.
I would come up with ideas on how to set up multiple cameras and a switcher app in the portable computer so people can see up to 5 cameras while I'm driving places and at my events. Ford Motors liked my style and thanks to Justin/twitch I got chosen to be part of the Ford fiesta campaign that lasted for 3 years 8 months each year free car and unlimited gas card. The first year with ford in 2009 I was streaming live all of my cross country road trip adventures. Many crazy things happened that even Ford enjoyed, like when I snuck onto a race track in Arizona and then like Smokey and the Bandit i took off driving fast from security back to the freeway and going off road to get to it lol. in 2011 when they sold twitch for almost $1 billion to Amazon. My url changed to twitch. from justin. tv/mooncricket to now twitch. tv/mooncricket & still looks the same. All my original old live content is still there but the comments vanished.
Technology changed so quick I didn't have time to keep up with the change. A year ago or so I finally went back on twitch and maybe soon I'll get back on when I can make the time to see what's new and what I can do on it now days. I'm thankful for the opportunities Justin, Michael, Emmett and Kyle did for me. I would do it all over again and better. So many great stories of my experience maybe I can use my old live content and do a youtube series blog about those crazy fun and wild adventures.
Examples, live streamed my dates, at work, bboy battles, many road trips, security grabbing into a office while live with 2,000 plus people watching, mom and baby survive truck running over baby carriage behind me while I was live I was first on the scene to help.
