From factory, JZX100s pick up speed from the ABS sensors but JZX90s pick up speed from a gear speed sensor within a transmission.
CD009s and JK41 transmissions do not come with a speed sensor provision. One way to register a speed signal is to utilize the Dakota Digital Universal Speedometer Interface (SKU: SGI-100BT).
You can pick up speed from the front wheel ABS sensors rather than the rear if you wish. You'll just have to check the color of the sensor from one of the front wheels and find the same color wire running into the ABS module
Cool thing about this box is you can run any diameter wheels and your speedometer would be accurate with a little calibration
Not endorsed by the company. Just sharing how I installed it on a JZX but I'm sure the process is similar on other vehicles with ABS.
Also not sure why I kept saying TCS (traction control system?) instead of TRC lol
The speedometer or speed sensor input wire is the solid yellow wire on the 2nd plug behind the cluster. I wasn't able to find this on google or the facebook groups and I saw posts of others looking for it too so hopefully by typing this sentence out someone will run into this video through google or some search engine.
Thanks for watching
Update 1/7/22
Wanted to post this little info update by a member of JZX Owners US fb page: "This tutorial works but there is a much easier way just get power ground and signal in from the original plug that went to the original speed sensor and get speed signal from the abs sensor whose plug can be found in the kick panel in the driver footwell next to the fusebox brown wire second plug in." - Andrew Fabacher & Mark Gossage
