You raised a great point. There is no consumer reaction in Ethiopia, that is why we are suffering. As you said all ban hiring them they wd have seen the effect.

Seblicho, there is no shame in telling the truth. If some people feel offended, that is on them, not on you my beloved. Been there , done that, and you are spot on. My husband and I moved to Ethiopia on business a few years ago, contrary to popular views we all hear growing up on how they should be treated, I was determined to prove that theory wrong. With a 3 story house and most things manual, there was no question I needed help. I hired someone with literally zero experience, trained her by working side by side, pay her a salary higher than most, have her registered to night school, provide her with everything I believe is Important to make her feel as part of the family. I thought If treated with respect, provided with similar resources, we can establish an environment conducive for both. Let’s just say, that is not how it turned out. I refuse to change myself or my approach as I was repetitively advised by the locals 😂, so I opted for hiring someone to come and clean three days a week. A really decent lady with her own family who needs to earn a living. She still work for us 7 years later, with much less headache.

Huuuuu Ethiopia is difficult. I was there for a few months and I felt no more servant. Sooo bad they are very disrespectful, expensive, don’t even do the work. Don’t know know to clean cook… but very disrespectful. I have decided that I won’t have servant anymore when I go back to Ethiopia. I have to do it my self. It’s not worth to have servant
