My mother made it with black eyed beans, 黑眼豆, never red beans, because we always regard red beans as something for dessert. She stir fried the glutinous rice with black eyed beans and seasoning, for a few minutes, for greater fragrance. She also included slices of mushrooms. But only half a duck egg yolk. Everyone said hers were the best they have ever eaten.
