50+ years ago my Grandpa sang this to me each time he saw me (no matter who was listening) with a slight lyric change, a twinkle in his eye, and of course his signature smart-ass grin "...and when the moon shines over the cow SHIT..." Long gone and still miss him. I'm a proud Katherine

Me too. My Granddad sung lots of songs but this is the very first song I remember, Granny and Granddad both used to sing this whenever they saw me. Precious times.

My grandmom said this was her favorite song when I asked, or one of them. This is the first time I've heard it, since the internet has never admitted to its existence the other times I've looked. She said they had a dancing horse her dad got from the circus after it broke its leg in a post hole and they were going to shoot it. So they could play a record, from the porch I guess, and it would do some kind of prancing routine.

My Dad's song book from the Air Force during WWII has this song in it. I used to get it out and sing to this.

I suggest that you all look for Ronnie Barker's version. That's the Ronnie "Gerald Wiley" Barker of historic British comedy fame ("The Two Ronnies"). He turned this out in a superb Chelsea Pensioner skit in the early seventies(along with a very cheeky version of "Madeleine came from Armeniteres, parlez-vous"), and did it again in the late seventies on his "Unbroken British Record" vinyl collection of great Two Ronnies musical sketches. I'll start you off; "K-K-K-Katie, was terribly matey, she would pick you right up off of your feet, but if her father got into a lather, he would kick you up the c-c-c-cobbled street".

Do you remember these songs from grandmother Lawson’s record player. It amazes me that I can remember these after well over half century.

When I was in High School we had an assembly and they did a skit about WW1 and they sang this song. I thought of this song and was curious if it was on KZitem This is proof you can find everything on KZitem.
