The đàn tứ dây is a modern invention: an electric bass guitar in the shape of a đàn đáy (northern Vietnamese long-necked lute with trapezoidal body).

Haha wow this is amazing. Such an original piece of work. And he is very talented with the K'ni Fiddle. Really would love to get my hands on one and try it out. Looks so fun to play.

he just wondered that it sounds very synthetic (but positively), not what you would expect from such an instrument

The name of this instrument is K'ny, its traditional instrument of Êđê indigenous people, not belong to Vietnamese sorry.

Sorry but it is also not an exclusive and native to Êđê people too, the Raglai, Hrê, Bahnar, Sedang and more own it too, so it is Vietnamese - the comprehensive term for all ethnicities living in Vietnam, including Kinh ethnic people.

"đàn tứ dây" literally means "4-stringed string instrument." It's really just a bass guitar, but you could probably find out where to buy one if you went to Vietnam and met some of the conservatory people in Hanoi. They might also sell them in music stores. The only reason to use this thing is so neo-traditional ensembles can have a pseudo-traditional instrument to hold down the bass line (a Western concept in the first place, but I guess now thought to be essential due to "modernization").

No, it's Vietnamese. No other country can claim that. It's originated in Vietnam and spread to Cambodia, Thai, Laos because ethnic Montagnard from Vietnam emigrated to.
