This is a topic that a LOT of people claim to understand, and to be nice.... They dont. Looking at your area under the curve (and even up top!) it's like you went from a K20 to a K24 just by getting the VTC dialed lol. I like working from 50, then 40, etc etc then look at both fueling and timing for each VS. The shortcut "edit all tables" method. . Its cool to see how you do it and the clearly superior results.. Nice video!!

Great video. 2 things tho. 1. Were all the runs taken on the same tables? Each VTC angle (by 10 or 15 degree increments) has its own ignition and fuel tables, so it may not be a fair comparison if the 40 degree vtc is running advanced tables vs the 10 degree running more retarded tables. 2. Wish you'd've done a 0 degree run. Usually shows better results than the 10 degree across the table
@JTHuntsman

Do you hold ignition timing constant between the VTC angles? I know each angle has a different ignition table. So that would affect power. In order to do A to B vtc wise do you make them all the same?

Awesome video!!! Just seems there is no way to adjust your VTC power correctly without a dyno. I steer tune my car and have to rely on Hondata’s reflash for the VTC angles. Wish I had a dyno.

Locking in each cam angle, tuning the afr, then comparing the fuel curve of each angle will give you a decent idea when street tuning and no access to the dyno

Would tapering further after 20’degrees to 10 degrees help get a little more top end out. It seems when you ran 10 degrees it held the end better just did not have the ramp effect of earlier aggressive vtc angle

Nick, would you mind giving some advice on ignition timing and knock limit, for example I notice the K20ITR basemap on hondata K manager runs really aggressive timing under WOT on the high cam, 34 degrees in the midrange. While my car seems happy with this, I wonder if there's any real benefit in running such advanced timing? Would it be significantly different with say 24 degrees from 5000-8000rpm than 34 degrees? I'm assuming this engine (k20A) cannot be knock limited otherwise it would almost certainly be getting knock count with these settings? Interesting also how up top from 7500+ mine only seems to want 28-24 degrees tapering off to 8600rpm, any higher and it will report knock count..... Whereas on the hondata basemap it suggests 32 degrees up top, but my particular car doesn't seem to like this

I didnt get to show it in the video, but i did try lower settings. This was the lowest that this particular setup/combination of parts allowed VTEC to engage without a loss in power at vtec engagement

@Earl_VTEC
3 жыл бұрын
VTC - Variable Timing Control. This is a mechanism attached to the end of the intake camshaft only which acts as a continuously variable cam gear - it automatically adjusts the overlap between the intake and exhaust cams, effectively allowing the engine to have the most ideal amount of valve overlap in all RPM ranges. VTC is active at all RPMs.

What can be the best cam angle setup for maximum power in non vtec if we want to keep the vtec engagement at factory setting (5800rpm)?
@tuningbynick
3 жыл бұрын
Each setup is slightly different - The only way to find that out is put the car on a dyno and sample the different VTCs
@chibba5418

General principal for power is you want to advance cam and ignition timing at vtec, in high cams (and VTC should go to highest immediately after you're in high cams), and you should start to taper off around ~1000-1500rpm after that on stock cams.

What happens when VTC is pinned because of P2V? I have 14.5 compression on k24. 4P deleted VTC with their fixed cam gears when they degreed the engine.
