Wow a tuner that sets all safeties prior to sending it. That guy is a type of tuner I'd like to work with. Not a hyped up loud guy happy to send your motor to oblivion.

As a tuner turning a internal combustion engine into a external combustion engine isn’t a great business model.

Yeah. There’s certainly a formula to building these Hondas that you must follow. I learned the hard way a couple times. Built motor right out of the gate and don’t mess around.

Very Impressive. Neil really really know what he is doing. I know you have the alternator to look at still, but also please take a look at the grounds for the coil packs to ensure they are robust with a low volt drop. Great car. Will you paint the intercoolers black to hide them visually?
@Brandobmx

What conversion harness did you go with? We used a hybrid racing universal conversion harness on the Lotus Elise and we also had voltage issues. Ended up being they the power supply to the ecu was being split and also supplying power to the 02 sensor heater, and to the fuel pump relay. It’s an easy test. Run a larger gauge cable from the battery + to the ECU power and see if that helps hold voltage steady at Upper RPMs. We would see 13.7-14v at idle light load then on high load it would drop down to low 11v.

Very interesting. I just put a new alternator in today. Haven’t tested it yet ti see if it replicates but I’ll certainly keep this in mind. Makes perfect sense.

The voltage drop at high RPM will be part of the issue with spark, where he ended up setting coils to charge for longer to mask it. Lower voltage will put less energy into the coils for same amount of time charged. Coils will run hotter if you manage to fix the charging issue, might be worth asking tuner if tune needs changing a bit once fixed

I would wait to dismiss the intake manifold until you have a solid alternator in there with stable spark and fueling up top. But it's certainly possible you have small diameter runners that help a lower speeds that is hurting the top end. On the plus side, the boost can be tuned to fix this a bit at higher RPM's you want.
@baysidefabrication

Agreed. Start with the basics and see how things improve. Weak spark and fuel supply voltage can definitely cause it as well

Wow! I rarely hear guys talk about usable street horsepower. I have a C5Z with cam/ heads 440whp. I live in Phx. There are so many people on the street at all hours of the night. You can’t rip it. Cops everywhere, Road debris.. I concur!! 500 ish is all you need. These guys and these 700-1000 hp street cars is too much for street. My car lurches and slipping the clutch is only way to be smooth and is a pain to drive unless on the freeway. Actually trading in for TT 996 next spring. Considering a Kswap 996 2wd. But not sure yet.
