I’ve had one for several years and used it alongside bigger bulkier knives...I always came back to it due to far more reasonable size/weight. On the handles you can certainly buy aftermarket nice ones but...honestly you can simply stipple them with any $10-12 soldering iron and end up with a really great traction and incorporate your own design.

I have the Becker BK 7 also I find it's more practical to use the Bahco Laplander folding saw to cut clear out more stuff, because you can cut closer to the ground with less effort and save time and energy and preserve your knife edge for other more important tasks.

The BK7 is a great knife, and you can customize it to your liking over time , I have micarta scales and a kydex sheath with leg dangler for mine . I also have the BK9 and BK16 that I also customized myself. The 1095 CroVan steel is really tuff and takes a razors edge. You can probably tell that I love my BK knives , LOL , ha , ha ...

The Becker knives are sweet, especially the BK9. Condor also has some big knives at a good price with a nice leather sheath. I normally edc a Gerber strongarm BDZ-1. However, if I was ever going on a big trip or something of that nature, I'll go with my Tops SXB. That knife is a freaking monster!

Nice knife as when I bought mine I narrowed it down to the Ka-bar and Ontario Rat line but I decided to go with the Ontario knives as either way they are a good choice....Good stuff....

What type of metal is this Knife made of? Is it a Type of Stainless? If not will it rust?
@greekveteran2715
3 жыл бұрын
That steel is Carbon V, it may have nothing comon with the 1095 (marketing trick) but it rusts fast, almost as fast as 1095. That means, that the water and moisture that is trapped under the handle slabs, after you put that knife in the water, will stay there and after some hours, you should have a lot of rust under the plastic slabs (handle screws too). Never put the handle of this knife, into the water like that. You can clean it with a moist piece of coth etc.

Great objective review, thanks. I have the ESEE 6 and don't like it as due to profile of the blade it just doesn't grab. Please test vs. ESEE 6 and either separate or vs. Cold Steel SRK SK--5. Thx.

All a matter of preference. My favorite mid size survival knife is the SRK. However, for the super heavy work the BK-7 can’t be beat. The Esee 6 sits sort of in between the two usage wise with the Gerber Strongarm as a stainless option if you can’t use carbon steel where you live. I’ll give you a list of my favorite mid size knives (I haven’t reviewed them all on the new channel but back when I had the old channel I had tested them all). 1. SRK 2. Tops Mohawk Hunter (tied for 1st as of recent) 3. Fallkniven S1 4. BK-7 5. Esee 6 6. Strongarm 7. APO-1 8. Darkangel 900 9. LMF 2 10. BK-2

I agree with all reviewers thinking the sheath is not as good as said in this review. If so little keep the knife in the sheath, what does it matter if the sheath is attached in an extra secure way? Also, the sheath is over sized for no good reason. Even the fly over the pounch is oversized (too long) for no good reason. The fly closing the pounch can not even be tightened due to the fastening being at the far end of the fly: clearly seen in the video here, but not commented on. Having so large open loop on the fly is not a good thing when moving in tight bushes for example. Hillarious that the pouch has two functions to keep the pouch secure, but the knife rely on a single function to stay secure. Btw, it is not just a little rattle... it is a lot.

Funny, you said it has a "really nice sheath". I like it too, but so many supposed "knife experts" on youtube say the sheath is just total junk. I think it's all just snobbery because they like the hard plastic sheaths. I do not. I really like my BK7, just not the black coating so I stripped it off.

I have the Becker Bk7. Compared it to the Ka-bar, and other than giving the Ka-bar a slight edge on being lighter in weight and having a false edge on the clip that is easily sharpened) I'd much rather have the Becker Bk7. The build is way more solid, with it's thick full tang. (Of course, you sort of have to replace those slippery grips). In every category except possibly the two stated, I'd choose tbe Becker!
@tim777us

@Mr. Shlock yes, we all know that Becker is owned by Ka-bar. We also all know that 'Ka-bar" is shorthand for the Original USMC and similar knives. Or I thought we all did. Some people even call Camillus and other similar designs Ka-bars. I didn't start that. Been going on a long time before I was born. Take it up with the people who started it.

@Mr. Shlock if I came off a little testy, I do apologize. My dad is in Hospital with Covid and he has COPD. I am maybe a bit on edge. Both the USMC Ka-bar and Becker Bk7 are great knives. I really like my Bk7 for outdoors stuff. It does everything I could ever want.
