Should it happen that one finds yourself in a bad spot with only one knife, you sure as hell need to be careful with it. Loose or break that knife and you have none. Short of having to break yourself out of a car wreck or some similar situation, you will use it for cutting, maybe copping saplings and bettoning if you really can not find dry kindling. Seems some people think survival is about dramatic gestures, when most of the time commen sense is what needs to prevail. Please excuse any spelling mistakes. I work with my hands, not words. I enjoy the down to earth aprouche of your channel. Last thing. I commented the other day that I like the causes you support. You sent a message back thanking me which I appreciate. The thing that cracks me up when certain people are reviewing knives is "...and you can use these holes to lash it to a stick to make a spear in a survival situation." Why TF would you throw the most important tool you would have in that situation? Just make a pointy stick. You hit a rock or something and break the tip, or a bone in your prey and chip the edge, or miss and lose your knife, you're screwed. It's a forward lanyard hole because some people prefer their lanyard to anchor more towards the center of the knife. 😂
@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors

Yeah brother I ain't making a damn spear. Id throw that sum bitch in the lake and never see it again
@litterpicker1431

Realistically, for fishing/frog hunting, an improvised gig will suffice. While a pointy stick might not be very effective against larger game, it is hard to imagine a _realistic_ survival scenario in which throwing spears will be your best option. In any case, a person who can't figure out how to lash a knife to a stick is _not_ going to survive the zombie apocalypse, not because of a lack of holes in their knife, but because of a lack of basic resourcefulness.

That is pretty much as thick as anyone really needs their knife to be. Thicker is better up to a certain point but after that it just makes it heavy & harder to get through the material. Obviously the thinner it is the less force it requires to push that blade through the target material. With knives, swords & really just weapons in general there is no such thing as the one that does everything perfectly. Its always a trade off between weight vs strength, cut vs thrust, etc etc. The fact is though our ancestors didnt build knives like modern companies do for a reason, it just wasn't needed. You dont need a sword that can handle bashing into armour like a club, b/c you can't cut through armour anyway. Instead they would aim for places that werent covered in armour like the arm pits or groin area. In other words use the tool smart.
@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors
Жыл бұрын
That has become my rallying cry. There's a lot going on that I'll explain in due time but there is a reason for a lot of this. I am a firm believer in using the tool as a tool. Now there are just some that are poorly made and there are some one-offs that are just bad there's no denying that but there is an assault on US made stuff certain companies in particular and it's ridiculous

IMHO, breaking knives intentionally through unreasonable abuse by some channels is simply ridiculous and only for shock value. What I want to know is how will a knife perform in its intended role AND how will it handle what today is considered standard outdoor tasks like batoning, digging, drilling, etc. Any knife will break if it is pushed far enough. I have seen 3/8" thick Busses break AFTER a half hour of abuse and batoning through plate steel with a sledgehammer. So, the way you do it brother is CORRECT.
@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors
Жыл бұрын
Here's what people don't get man If you take a knife and it holds up to an hour of hard use abuse type testing that knife is jam up.... Now here's the thing and here's what a lot of people don't understand there are certain channels out there that have it in for American products there I've said it because it's the truth. And I'm not talking about a channel like Joe x I like Joe he's a good guy I'm not talking about him at all he has his thing everybody knows what his deal is right but if anybody thinks or doesn't think that there's a lot of backdoor politicking going on against companies especially like K-Bar especially like tops especially american-made manufacturers If they don't think that's happening they're out of their damn mind. I talked to Bill Harsey quite frequently.. he even said out of his own mouth when Spartan blades first started there were certain channels that got paid to break their knives. See that stuff we don't talk about and I don't like bringing it up without hard facts but the larger I get the more I see if that makes sense and it ain't going to be long brother what's done in the dark will be brought to the light

If you're going to be testing knives to destruction for the YT views, maybe grab a cheaper knife as a control. You can certainly destroy a Mora Companion if you do a lot of batoning (seeing what it took to wreck it was what persuaded me to buy one), and if you do manage it, you're only down $20.

You know, the Buck 119 in supersteel is my favorite knife. Now only I can use it for survival and bushcraft, but I can also use it in normal urban situations and I dont think normies get so scared about it. They dont understand how much damage a small knife like the Buck 119 can do. A lot of people complain of the rat tail but Ive broken the knife before on purpose to know its limits. If you know what you're doing you dont mind about the knife being full tang. Not everyone enjoys a sharpened chunk of steel. Nothing wrong with that either
