Kanda Bongo man is a legend. His music is loved by all generations . He did the "My Lovely Elizabeth" or "My Sweet Elizabeth" song well. The song was originally by S. E Rogie Sooliman Ernest Rogers "Rogie" (1926 - 4 July 1994), better known as S. E. Rogie, who was a highlife and palm wine musician and guitarist from Sierra Leone. Died: 4 July 1994 (aged 68); Lewisham, London, England, United Kingdom Born: 1926; Fonikoh, Pujehun District, Sierra Leone

I agree to this! The story could be different, but the melody and some words in Kanda Bongoman's song bear significant similarities with S.E. Rogie's song "My Lovely Elizabeth."

Shocked to hear Kanda claiming the composition of the song, 'My Lovely ELIZABETH'. My knowledge reminds me of early 60's of Rogers of Sierra Leone who was the composer of the original version of the song.

@danieloumawasingo9041 Kanda Bongoman as great and legend as he is should definitely acknowledge S.E. Rogie for the cover he did (My Lovely Elizabeth), which was popular too. We know the original song and who was behind it!

A critically letdown with today's young journalists; is that they're too lazy to do a research on a topic prior to interview, though they have everything at their fingertips, unlike yester years yonder. They think journalism is about talking endlessly, devoid of substance, new input...they invariably fail to contextualise. (can't contextualise without a research). How come these two had failed to google 'Bela Bela band' the most widely popular and extremely innovative Zairois band of the 70s; inasmuch as when Kanda mentioned it it was like a bolt from the thunder for them! People all Africa over danced to 'BELA BELA' beats in mid 70s and early 80s and Kanda was in the thick of it as a singer ---they had no clue! Or, the song 'Sweet Elizabeth' which was not originally Kanda's but by a Sierra Leonean artist, one Suleman E. Rogie. Originally composed as a palm wine song, 'My Little Elizabeth' went on to mesmerize the entire continent in late 60s, in Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Lobito, Lusaka et, making a variety of spinoffs wherever it passed through. In Tanzania it was rendered as ' 'Nalala Mbali juu ya Pesa'!

Spot on. Symptom of our failed society. People get into positions too big for them. This was a golden chance to educate the world. Unfortunately, this kind of interview is not isolated. Somebody may remind them to study great interviewers to develop the art. I am not sure I understand what Kenyan media houses look for when employing presenters. It may be limited to some character only they know.
