I am not of Hawaiian heritage, but I was born and raised in Hawai'i, Puna district. I am of Filipino ancestry, but grew up w/ many native Hawaiians. I know/learned their history through Kupuna Keli'iho'omalu (when Hawaii's school system implemented the Hawaiiana program)...I understand and feel their struggle. As in history up until present, they are being stepped on, oppressed and silenced by non-Hawaiians -- just as Americans have been opressing American Indians. We live on Hawaiian lands, so we must respect and understand that we (non-Hawaiians) are guests. Give back the Hawaiian lands to da Kanaka and we will likely be able to co-exist without conflict. Ua mau ke ea 'o ka aina i ka pono (The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness)!

Same thing happened in Fiji. Two brothers and a friend lease land and a Chinese investor just took over their land to build a casino and resort. Investor did the same thing-installed iron gates across stretch of land and refused land holder to access own property.

The government did the same thing to the haoles in the mainland. It’s about stealing the land. It’s the same thing that happened to Cliven Bundy in Nevada. Where the ranchers had to defend there land by gunpoint.

56,000 acres? 3 families got 56,000 acres and thousands of Kanaka have nothing and sit on the lists?
@nomakeanykine
5 жыл бұрын
Helen N I think you misunderstood that. There is 56,000 acres worth of land up there but only 3 families have been awarded anything. The three families got a small piece of the 56,000 acres. They weren’t awarded all 56,000 acres. Richard clearly states more than once that there is a non hawaiian up there threatening him saying that Richard is on his land. The non hawaiian making the threats believes the 56,000 acres is his. Richard is not the bad guy here. I know him personally and he is a good man and he is for the kanaka. He is by no means a greedy person as I’ve seen personally some of the things he’s done for the community of kamuela. Hearing him speak on this warms my heart as I know he will continue to fight to get more kanaka up there on the mountain so that they may also have a piece of land to call their own.

Helen N no need for apologies as I totally understand how things could’ve been misunderstood. For all I know I could be wrong. I also read your other comment regarding your father, I’m sorry to hear that he finally got awarded but is no longer capable of farming. That is very sad as I feel this is a bigger issue than most of us can actually grasp unless we are involved with this whole process. Over all I feel our government cares more about tourism than they do the people of these islands. It’s been way to long that Hawaiians are getting the short end of the stick. Tourist and mainlanders seem to have more rights in these islands than the people that are from here do. It’s sad no matter which way you look at it, the system has failed the kanaka!!!

......I remember when I was awarded my homestead pastoral lot in Pu'ukapu, and the only applicants for the Humuula pastoral lots where the Kaniho 'Ohana their were 3- family members who were on that list. For them, they have the knowledge and expertise on raising cattle in a rugged area of that area of the homestead. Parker Ranch who leased that land parcel until it expired and it went back to DHHL. Now, how did a non-Hawaiian get to lease the other DHHL Humuula pastoral lots, when there's allot of other 50% Hawaiian ranchers from the Big Island who's willing to ranch on those leased pastoral homestead lots too! Politically motivated I bet, and that's how this Hawaii State has run by Fricken corrupt Democrats!

So much ambiguity when one's continued request falls on Deaf Ears. How Shameful, especially if you sit on the Board and do nothing to enhance the True Kanakas Lives. God has a Plan for you that sit on major decisions and fail to act. May judgement be swift.
