My wife cries now, every time she hears this song....the "Fan Fiction"/Musical didn't help things either. The song is a perfect fit for the show, for Dean. The only music Supernatural was missing was Zeppelin and the Winchesters remedied that.

An amazing band live. I've seen them numerous times at many venues and never really disappointed. I became a believer the first time I saw them. As Brian May of Queen said " Unbelievably well rehearsed. I was standing at the side of the stage with Freddie and I was like, 'are you watching this?'. I mean, incredible music and they sounded like a f##king record."

This is pretty typical of their catalogue. I had the good fortune of seeing them in concert in Kansas City in 1981 or 82. One of the best shows I've ever seen. The whole crowd sang along for most every song, and the hometown vibe & laser show made it epic

I saw them in Philadelphia (my hometown), summer of 1977. I was going into 8th grade. My friend and I rode the Broad St Subway to the stadiums and hippies were passing joints, rolled in fruit flavored papers, up & down the whole train. Kansas was touring to promote their new album, Point Of No Return. The concert was amazing, I couldn't hear for a week. Of course everyone was dying for them to play this song. They didn't play it during the concert. Then they came back out and an encore and another encore and a third encore, still no Wayward Son. They turned on the house lights and people were climbing over the rows of seats to head for the exits, then the lights went out and they played this song amazingly. It was a great experience.

Over time, this classic has become even more celebrated than it was 46 years ago. Piano mixed with a hard-rock track defined the era of late-seventies music, and Steve Walsh's incredible vocals gave some of the greats a run for their money. Pure, unadulterated talent.

I was stationed at Ft Riley from late 73 till I was discharged in 75. Kansas was playing at bars in Manhattan and Topeka Kansas then. They're only 50 miles apart and Ft Riley is 20 miles from Manhattan. One of the most impressive things was their violin player, fiddle?, he was a big guy who wore biboveralls, when he'd get rocking on that thing the whole stage shook!! I also think Kansas was the first band to use a violin as a solo rock instrument, everybody else used it in country rock.

Harri, you are so right 'this song has everything'. I While researching Kansas a bit, I was even more shocked to find that this song was written at the last minute. The day before Kansas went into the studio to record Leftoverture, the record company told them they needed one more song for the album. Kerry Livegren went home that night and wrote the song and lyrics, the next day taught it to the band and they recorded it. That in itself to me is as impressive as the song.

I've noted that a lot of great songs were created that way. For example, "These Eyes" by the Guess Who was written in half an hour, and it turned out to be one of their biggest hits. But really, it's all of the years of being a musician that lead up to such a moment. 2.0

Back in the day when this was hot for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived there so a buddy and I had to go to Red Rocks Colorado(God's Cathedral). Very well worth the trip and a nice ride on a couple of Harleys with our girls. 300 miles each way with roughly $1 a gallon for gas on bikes. Hell yeah.😎😎 I've seen them since then with the new band members in Reno (Harrah's former outdoor venue) Still killin' it. I still have this LP./Album. "Point of Know Return" and "Dust in the Wind" are two other deep songs from that era 45 years ago. They're still played on classic rock radio. "Surely Heaven waits for you"😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇

This is actually one of their more mainstream songs from the 70's, it's probably their most famous song after all.
