What is a Flex nib? Are all Flex nibs made of gold? Where can I buy a good flex nib in India? What kind of a pen do I buy to go with a flex nib? Do I have to be a Calligrapher to use a flex nib?
Your questions are many and varied. I have been receiving them off and on, with requests that I show a flex nib, answer your queries and if possible, help you with your purchase decision.
I bought myself a Kanwrite Heritage pen with a Flex nib - as always, their service was prompt, the price decent enough, the customer relations just perfect, and here is the video.
The Kanwrite Heritage is a Three in One pen which takes converters, cartridges and can also be used as an ED filler. I am using a converter, though there are experts who opine that for long writings with a flex nibbed pen, a barrel full of ink is a prerequisite that calls for an Eye Dropper filler.
To recap, a flex nib is one, on which when pressure is applied, the tines spread out, allowing the user to enjoy line variations. In earlier times, when cursive writing was virtually the norm, people used to rely on flex nibs to add just that dash of beauty to their writings. Of course, the calligraphers and handwriting experts, scribes even, used to use them for obvious reasons.
Naturally, many flex nibs in those days were made of gold, and though golden flex nibs, many surmises are a class apart, today there are excellent alternatives made of steel that write almost as well.
Hope I have been able to address all your queries. If you have any others, please feel free to ask in the comments section.
