This is one of our favorite builds to date, two months in the making. The actual garden made this look so much better, especially with the waterfalls and mini trees. While there are many images of the Hanging Gardens, no one knows what it actually looked like. Even after browsing through a few reference images, we were pretty much on our own with the design. Back in March, during spring break, we attempted this build and anticipated it to be our biggest one to date. It was already looking great but the day after I returned to school, our damn cat knocked it over. That isn’t the first time he’s destroyed hours upon hours of work, and we might get barricades to lock away our builds during construction.
A few weeks later I decided to rebuild, but homework and studying had to take precedence. My brother also had a huge robotics competition so he was busy remodeling his robot. In the meantime I created a more organized and compact destruction sequence for the Hanging Gardens, smaller than the original but still pretty huge. Slowly but surely we finally finished it in time for my brother’s graduation and birthday.
The failures in the collapse were minor but still annoying. The turns were very tight and dominoes got stuck between the walls, and the awkward vertical transfer mechanisms didn’t work on one side. Luckily my redesigned force multipliers on the inside worked to perfection. The front stayed up simply because we didn’t have room to build up enough force under that section. Regardless, I still call this build a win.
BTW, on June 18 construction on the world record Kapla Tower will commence! Can’t wait to be a part of this…even builders like Hevesh5 will be there.
