Completely agree with all the other commenters - the more relaxed tempo really allows you to appreciate the wonderful chords! I love this recording :))))

Your recordings of kapustin are just as good as the composers, but unique as well! Your performances are more tender, hushed, and allow the listener to fully enjoy the harmonies, whereas kapustin's own performances, while excellent, can be a bit rough. You've both got groove, and that's ultimetaly the determing factor of a good recording of kapustin's works. Keep up the good work!

Incredible. I'm so impressed that someone besides the composer could play this so well.

Upon her balcony appearing, She loved to greet Aurora's show, When dancing stars are disappearing Against the heavens' pallid glow, When earth's horizon softly blushes, And wind, the morning's herald, rushes, And slowly day begins its flight. In winter, when the shade of night Still longer half the globe encumbers, And 'neath the misty moon on high An idle stillness rules the sky, And late the lazy East still slumbers- Awakened early none the less, By candlelight she'd rise and dress. Alexander Pushkin. EUGENE ONEGIN - Chapter Two (translated by James E. Falen)
Very beautiful man. As it was already said, you play it slower and I personally love it, as it feels like we can enjoy better all these little pieces of harmonic jewelry. I'd like to know your opinion on how hard this piece is and how much time did you spend to learn it well? Thanks a lot.

Guilherme Brunetti Thank you for your kind words! Actually, I feel the same about the harmonies - these are colourful jewels which we should enjoy, and take time for it. On the other side, it also needs this 'swing', without which the piece would sound too 'philosophically'. Every performer should find his own compromise. I used to play this piece as encore - for me it is relaxing. I think, if you like it, you would easily learn it! Good luck!

Reminds me quite a bit of Zez Confrey and Ferde Grofe despite being written in 1976

Nice interpretation ! Better than composer's take that is too quick and harsh for my opinion ! As says Sir Brunetti below, one can better enjoy beautifully formed Kapustin's music !

Keith Sampino Thank you for your comment! You're right, I play the Daybreak slower than the composer himself and other pianists. The reason is that I understand the sound of this piece as more soft, and try to make the beautiful transitions of harmony colors more clear.

Konstantin Semilakovs I LOVE this tempo. So often Kapustin writes beautiful chords that fly by too fast...
