Hi Mirjana, and thank you for the comment! That is good way to check individual progress if your instructor have many students. Also there is psychological effect for the visual evidence of progress when you go to "next level". This can be important for majority of people especially on the first years of doing martial arts. Thanks for commenting Elker Ting! 😁 If it's not too long since you stopped active karate training, I think you can continue where you left. Some parts of training will stay on your brain/muscle memory for a long period of time, and it's a bit faster to remember the already learned things again. 💪 But as we know, karate is a lifelong journey and therefore it's not bad to start the cycle all over again. 👍 You might already know that it's common courtesy to wear a white belt when you visit or start in new school of karate. This is because you are not aware of the syllabus they have, and you are not yet graded there. When you start or visit in new school, you should mention, that you have trained karate before and on what skill level you where. Your new sensei can then decide what belt level of his/her training would be the most suitable for you to start. Remember that the belt levels are school-specific, but your knowledge will stay the same. And that is more important 💪 I hope that you find good place to practice again! 😊

Thanks for good question Chardes Antonio! ✌️ Well it depends on the school but overall there are usually 10 Dan levels. Can you tell me approximately how many classes does it take to reach your first belt?
@KarateEngineer
3 жыл бұрын
Good question! It depends much on the organization you are training with. For the white belt (or the one that is the first one in your style) the amount of training can usually be about 20+ classes or 30+ hrs. Generally an attendance rate over 70% is required. As you might already know, the amount of classes or hours do not fully relate to success in graduation. Your Sensei will examine your attitude during training. So if you want to give a good impression of yourself, train as much as you can and fully focus on your training at the dojo 😉👍
@jonathanyeager5323
3 жыл бұрын
i do shito-ryu style and my sensei told me it takes about 32 classes to advance to yellow but it also depends if you pass the pre test if you don't pass the pre test then you wont go to the belt test and you'll stay the current rank you are there's a guy whos been a guy whos been an orange belt since ive been there and ive been there for a year now im a green belt but really it depends how quick you adapt for me if im shown something once i can do it but yeah depends how fast you can adapt
@KarateEngineer
3 жыл бұрын
@jonathan yeager Thanks for comment, and sorry I didn't notice your comment being held for review! It's true that teachers watch the trainees progress, and it's all about the adapting as you said. The more time you need for learning some skill, the more time you need to practice. Also at least in my school, graduations are kind of "invitation only". So if you haven't practiced enough, your sensei knows that (for example attending pre test as you described your school doing👍) you are not eligible to attend the graduation test. And it's also worth remembering, that the belt color is just a tool for your sensei to categorize trainees for right skill level classes. So there is no need to rush. 🙂👍

What if a 3.Kyu brown belt from Wado Ryu karate would change and start training at Shito Ryu, would he have to start with White belt again?
@KarateEngineer
2 жыл бұрын
Good question tehboka and thanks for commenting! 😊 It all depends on the syllabus. Everyone starts as white belt, but as your new Sensei recognizes the skills you already have, you might get permission to try graduating for higher level. Therefore I would say that everyone starts again from white, but your journey will go faster because your knowledge is not downgrading with the belt ✌️😉

Hello sensei. I’m Dr. Tunesh. I’ve always wanted to learn karate. But I’m 40+ now. How long will it take for me to graduate as a Shodan.
@KarateEngineer
Жыл бұрын
Hi, TuneshKumar Kolindaivelu Pillai! I'd say that it takes typically 5 - 7 years of practice. This is only my perspective from the school I attend to. Here we have guided training of 3 - 5 hours per week and it really depends on the amount and quality of training you have. For example I have trained karate 6 years and currently I hold the 3rd kyu (1st brown out of 3). Because of my work I travel a lot, so it slows my progress. But karate is a lifelong journey, so there should not be hurry in training 🙂 Karate is also very good conditioning for all ages, specially for adults, so there is no age limit! I'd advice you to go for beginners class and stay consistent in training 😁 With high motivation and curious mind you will become Shodan✌

@KarateEngineer
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question Prince King! 😊 The colors used in your karate class are chosen by your karate school, and your karate school decides the colors requested by the upper karate organization for example national karate federation (if your karate school belongs to one). There is no standardized order or number of belt colors used in karate. Belt colors in karate and many other martial arts are only used within your school to keep different skill levels in order. By doing this your teacher can teach relevant classes for every skill level. So if there is no blue color in your karate class that is not surprise 😉 My school does not have colors violet or red that are common in many other karate schools or styles. 🥋

Hi Harshitas vlog and thanks for the comment! It all depends of your schools criteria, but the graduating commitee checks your overall performance. At least in my dojo, they will make you do the kata again if there is noticeable mistakes. This way they know if the problem is continuous or was it just nervousness. When it comes graduating, it's usually more than just the one performance you make in front of the commitee / your sensei. They know if you are ready to go further and usually couple mistakes in you kata is ok if they are not critical.✌🏻 We are talking about the beginner kyu levels (if the order is wh-ye-or-gr) so everything cannot be perfect. I don't know your schools customs, but I wouldn't be worried about graduating if I were you. Graduating to new kyu is much more than 3 katas. Everything counts. I wish you good training! 💪🏻😁

It's too bad that there aren't any belts higher than a black belt? It would be cool if there was a good few levels higher such as instead of wearing a white suit you would wear a black suit? It would be cool if when wearing the black suit you had belts like silver, gold, and platinum belts? It would be even better if there was an even higher level where you would wear a gold suit but you would start out with an even higher color than a platinum belt?
@KarateEngineer

Thanks for your comment Adam Guymon! Personally I don't think belt colors very much, because for me they represent more the preference of ranking students inside the individual school systems. In some systems they have red belt and red belt with white stripes that are higher in school hierarchy. When training kobudo you can wear black karate gi jacket. I have heard that it is traditional way when training kobudo. Of course it depends on your school principles if you can wear it. Black suit looks cool though 😁👌🏻

The belt colors in karate are school specific, and some schools prefer using stripes or multicolored belts to divide trainees even more for different karate classes. These are for example junior belts that are often marked with white stripe. It is up to your school and your sensei to make these decisions what belts they use when planning classes.
