Been doing Shotokan since 84. Had to slow down over the last ten years. Ignored a torn cartilage in my right knee and just got worse over the years wher it was very difficult to do Gangaku. Got a new knee in 2020. November. After rehab I started doing Kata again. I actually started with Tekki Series. Really strengthen the lower body. After Tekki I started with Heian series to Kangkudai. A Kata a month. It’s 2023 and February is Heian Nidan. It was a very slow process in the beginning. Just didn’t realize just how weak my body was. After two years of a Kata a month 2 to 3 times a week. At least 10 times using weights, weapons and Bunkai. Plus working on key point of the Kata. I’m so glad that Shotokan has such a training regimen to keep the Sword sharp and stay in good health. Kata for life. Heian Sandan this month.

It is a great explanation and very effective. I learned this concept before from Kazumasa Yokoyama from Okinawan Shorin Ryu many years ago. He explains this on his DVD on Naihanchi as well. I never heard that they use this in Shotokan. Maybe Naka sensei found the same theory.

Dylan R. N. He is saying that rotation is slow. Use Tai No Shinshuku (compression and expansion) to get speed. Also when you turn and swing you hit his arm. When you use Tai No Shinshuku and your elbow you can avoid his arm when you strike.

Why sensei dosnt stand in kokutsu dachi at the begining of the kata? Just curiosity. Is it another style?

Creo que el título debiera decir Heian Shodan o Pinan Shodan...xD...para mí este maestro siempre quiere aprender y respeta todos los estilos. Cómo quiera ser su alumno.
What is the name of the first technique? The double block, I can't find the name :O

The problem with all and I mean all black belts and learn from this here and now -- quit looking into the eyes of your opponent, look at the shoulders first shoulders dictate where the body follows. All these black belts are looking right into his eyes wrong wrong wrong. Quit being so tight , loosen up , watch the shoulders, not the eye's.. Why do you never look in the eyes you say, because your opponent is a liar in those eyes and will feint you out. Then come in for the striking blow.
