i used to practice shotokan when i was little (from 6 to 8 yo) and even studied japanese in high school. i now have a sprained ankle and suddenly am super interested in practicing my kicks again. i love this sensei, he explains all the possible errors and how to correct them, how to position you body since the kimono doesnt give out many details on the body movement and his kicks are very crisp. i feel like a little girl again, when i was amazed with all my senses by my sensei s raw strength, the rustle of the kimono and the powerful energy in the impact of his movement. i never got to that level, for me it was more like gymnastics and katas because i was such a skinny and tender child. developed a severe case of loud mouth afterwards so karate wasnt necessary haha

I really enjoyed your karate Kick Tutorial!! Thanks so much for showing us the different kicking techniques, and teaching us the names to the kicks you demonstrated. I really liked your teachings in the Marital Arts. I really enjoy Martial Arts , but had to retire after my back injury. I miss it , however decided to take a break. My doctors say I can. Maybe some day I can return and continue my journey. Can't wait for you next video demonstration. Thanks !

After hearing a Japanese guy say the names of these kicks, I still cannot say them properly! I’m so English. 😂😂 In Wado we practice nidan geri with the first kick being just a knee rather than extension. It’s always in mind as two full kicks. I think it’s thought of more as a climbing technique with the first kick standing on the opponent. I personally use it as a thrust. Using the first kick to launch for distancing kicking the rear leg right through the opponent as a forceful front kick. Nidan geri literally has loads of applications with so many variations. One of my favourite kicks.

Maintaining allignment of the hips and the feet placement at the beginning and end of the kicks is an underrated aspect improved by actually training karate rather than just loosely learning the kicks and practicing on a bag at the gym or at home. Your sensei will guide you to good form and you'll practice that so so much that its unforgettable - muscle memory. Subsequently you learn strong BALANCED form that keeps you more ready for executing more techniques and or cutting angle and so on. Side kicks are my fav, i practice it in slow motion as well as fast

TaeKwondo is Korean Karate. They learned Japanese Karate during the Japanese occupation of Korea under the Toyotomi shogunate. The term "TaeKwondo" didn't even exist prior to the early 1950's. Prior to that, all dojos in Korea simply read "Korean Karate" on the storefront. In an effort to galvanize nationalism, the Korean government commisioned all Korean Karate instructors to modify the original Japanese katas and thus, changed the name from "Korean Karate" to "TaeKwondo". Mere politics at work but it is, in fact, Karate.

Only thing is to differenciate between front “snap” kick and front “thrust” kick which are both types of Mae Geri, and his round kick the knee should come to the side first before you pivot into the round house this will give you a more powerful and sharp technique, watch Kanazawa’s round kick for example. Otherwise this is an excellent source for karate kicks and a great quick tutorial
