Karen Carpenter is still my favorite voice. Whether I’m happy or sad , or in love with a broken heart, there’s always a song I can pick that will make me feel what I’m suppose to feel. She’s the best. I feel her in every song. We love and miss you Karen. You’re at peace now and can see all of us remembering you every time we sing along with your song. Thank you Karen for leaving us all the gift of your music💜💜

Karen was looking for a different style of singing. New songs, different octaves and a personal sound. She clearly can and could sing anything. Not every song on her Solo project was a smash hit, but we must remember, Karen was doing something away from The Carpenter "sound" and she had a blast. She was thrilled at her effort.

I'm starting to think Karen needed a better producer (sorry Herb Albert). I keep hearing unfinished songs that sound better than what was finished and used. And think I learned that she turned down 'Rock With You' which was written for her and then recorded by Michael Jackson. Her version wouldn't have been as funky, but it could have been the hit record her solo album needed to get A&M's blessing.

I don’t know what’s wrong with this song? I like it... I honestly like all the songs she sings. I find them catchy and nice. I guess I’m not that picky when it comes to music lol.

@MrJonk1969 Exactly - the deeper richness of the early Carpenter years is what separated Karen from the pack of other vocalists. Most woman can sing high or "thin"/whispery. I often wonder if this was deliberate, or because of anorexia. In other words, if someone asked Karen in 1981 to duplicate her vocal of "All of My Life" from 1969, could she have done it?

you can tell that this song is a bit different than what Richard usually composed and arranged. It's a bit more of a contemporary 80's pop.

I have to agree with Richard that her singing in her higher register on this project was a big mistake. She doesn't stand out in the crowd.

I feel the song writing/arranging for her solo album was way below par for her talent. It must have been very frustrating seeing her friend Olivia Newton-John being able to transition successfully into the sexy disco/dance music scene. I believe she was in a very vulnerable place emotionally and physically to make the right choices in songs and arrangements. Plus, she was on the east coast and we all know how attached she was to her family and Downey. This is when a competent agent/manager would have been helpful to her. It just seemed like she never had the help she truly needed. Nevertheless, she had the sweetest voice I have ever heard. RIP

@patcolin2

It kind of reminds me of Phil Seymour. He was more of a record producer in the 1980s, but he sang a couple of songs, and did well with them. One song in particular, "Precious to me"....but, I can see Nick Lowe too. Karen was experimenting with her own sound. Did a great job of Paul Simon's "Still Crazy after these years"....could have been released as a single. "If I had you", could have been released as well. I think, if A&M had gotten behind her album, advertised, and promoted it, she would have done well with the release. Karen didn't go against A&M, and Richard. Her solo album, has some pretty good stuff.

@@richardea4223 I love Karen, but this is a weak song. Not that memorable, it never truly grounds itself, and it has a throw away hook.
