OP of the first story is a good lad for getting their nephews into PC gaming. Getting a PC, even a starter one, was a massive thing for me and I always love seeing people get introduced in a similar fashion! That Karen can buy their spoiled brat a PC their self if they deserve it so much.

Me personally, a gaming PC was something my parents would've never gotten me so easily. A gaming PC for me was pretty much a christmas, a birthday, and another christmas, and when I got one, it was the most awesome thing ever. The first story: OP laid down a boundary and entitled mom as well as entitled kid couldn't handle it. I doubt very much this made an impact on the way she will raise her child. I'm sure, she will paint OP as a mean adult who didn't want him to be happy. I've seen it. I've also been in OP's shoes. One day entitled mom will wonder what went wrong when she's dealing with the overgrown man-child she has raised.

First story makes me think of Christmas 1969. (story told to me by my aunt) A little backstory...my father LOVED Christmas, as in the house lit up like Christmas Vacation LOVED Christmas. This year, his sister and mother were struggling financially and weren't going to be able to get my cousin (sister's son) any presents for Christmas. And my father and mother were having serious marital problems at this time. My father gave my mother $50 to buy presents for my cousin. (Note: my cousin and I are both almost three at the time). $50 in 1969 was able $400 in 2023 money. Christmas Day.....my cousin and I are sitting at the tree, I'm opening one of my presents when my mother hands my cousin a flat box and says Merry Christmas. My mother has this devilish grin on her face. My cousin opens the gift and it was a suit. A small suit for a three-year-old. The price tag was still on the coat $48. yeah, my mother spent the whole amount on one outfit that he will outgrow in six months. My father was livid. But he kept his composure. He went to the tree and took the tags off a few gifts meant for me to give to my cousin. I didn't notice because I was happy with what I already got. After the gifts were open, he hugged me, my cousin, my aunt, and my grandmother. He then said I'm leaving before I do something I regret, while staring at my mother. My father didn't return until December 30 and handed my mother divorce papers. That act of cruelty in his eyes was the last straw. The saddest part about this whole ordeal was this was my father's last Christmas. He was killed by a drunk driver nine months later in 1970.

The first story reminds me of a Christmas I don’t really remember but know about through my other family members telling me about it. When I was about 5 my family got invited to celebrate Christmas at my grandparents house. I’m surprised we went because my sister was a baby and we had to fly to visit. My grandpa insisted that my parents didn’t have to buy/ bring gifts and that he and his wife would cover everything. I remember getting a big doll, sledding with my youngest uncle, and visiting my other uncle and seeing his then gfs dogs. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I found out that all the gifts my siblings and I got were from dollar/ bargain stores while my youngest uncle gifts were all big brands he also got way more then my siblings and I combined. My uncle was thankfully not spoiled brat and was always nice to me and my siblings. My mom was incredibly upset but hid it well from us cause again I only have positive memories of this Christmas. Thankfully my youngest uncle was not blamed for his parents actions and I honestly have the best relationship with him then any of my extended family members.

Story 2: In the early '00s my own dad and myself used to do wood cutting, including tree removal, as a side job. He wasn't bonded to do this because the insurance for the bond would have been too expensive. But my dad knew how much of a liability that would be so just would refuse to cut down any trees where there was a house. Sometimes a customer would lie on the phone about the job only for us to get there and find out that they wanted us to cut a tree down right next to their house. Some of them would get really pissy about it too when we refused. We eventually my dad and I got to see exactly why it was a good idea to not take on those jobs when on my dad's associated took a risky job and ended up dropping a tree on a customers house. Turns out the customer had a tree with some sort of infection that made it very weak in one spot so the whole thing just shattered when he started falling it. Ended up smashing up a customer's garage and his expensive car inside of it. The wood cutter made the customer signed a waiver, but the customer's lawyer still sued the wood cutter.

In the first one, I'm too nice, but I would have said, sry kid these gifts were already prearranged months ago by their parents. I don't have anything else at the moment. If the mother did her rant, I would have given her a shopping list of parts and said I'd put it together if she purchased them. If she continued, I'd make up some story that's what my brother did and why does she think she deserves to put me out of pocket financially. Then I might have concluded with the fact these gifts were not part of the secret Santa and there was obviously a price difference between those.

Story 1: Wow, that Karen and her kid don't even deserve coal for christmas, much less a new PC or anything along those lines. I dont know how old that kid is, but he's definitely going to be a demon when he gets older if he's being spoiled like that. Also, to just demand things like that, when you give small things is totally ridiculous and unreasonable. Now i get if you dont have a lot and can only give what you can, but to only spend like 4 bucks and expect people to drop hundreds, if not more, on you and/or your family is just stupid. Glad the OP wants nothing further to do with this person. Story 2: This is why you assume anything. One of my old bosses said: "Assumptions are the root of all mess ups." Hearing no insurance just made me cringe before i heard the rest. Good thing that the home insurance helped cover the repairs. I know i wouldn't be taking any recommendations from those co-workers anymore, or do some very extensive research. Story 3: Uggghhh, stuff like this is why i hate working golf and country clubs. They are among the worst. Hopefully the boss that siad that they can't used the "members" doors got into trouble from the GM, and if not, then the malicious compliance just wasn't worth it.

Reading the title of story 2, I have a tip for you guys. Find a local log trucking company, and figure out if they have a self loading log truck (yes this is highly important). If they do, call them and ask if they'd be willing to do a personal job, if they say yes at that point, give them your phone number, address of the place you want trees removed, and name. If you're wondering why I mentioned the self loader, no company that doesn't have one will come out for a few trees because they'd need to bring a loader, log truck, and lowboy out there which can double or triple the time and cost of doing this. Whereas a self loader just needs the truck and an experienced driver to operate it. If you're wondering where the wood will end up, unless you specifically ask to keep it, it will go to a nearby mill. I can't say what mill because everywhere is different, and each mill takes a different kind of wood (some take only cedar, only firs, etc etc.) TLDR: Get a logger, they do this for a living, and it'll be worth the cost.

Buying cheap gifts is one thing. I’ve been told it’s the thought that counts, and if you can’t afford something expensive, get whatever you can. But it’s another thing to expect something expensive, and then cry about it because it didn’t happen, and literally asking for it. Be thankful that you got something over nothing, and it seems like the Karen and the son got a lot more than what they should’ve. And just to know she actually bought the brat a PC, just shows she does have money to spend, she’s just not willing to use it on the family. 1st story: GREATEST UNCLE EVER! But guys, just one really LITTLE advice. I was raised in a latin country. Families not rarely are very close, and end up sharing lots of stuff. So when we will give a personal gift, we try to do it more privately. If is small take the person aside, give them and ask to open at home. If it´s bigger... give them at home. I know it may sound stingy or inconvenient, but it avoids a lot of situations... like a pretty common example: kids breaking other´s new toys just out of jealousy. Sometimes the anxiety to give the gift blurs our thinking, but we have to be aware that not everyone is self-aware.. hhehe.

Every time I thought I’d seen or heard everything, stuff like this pops up out of nowhere.

If I saw a kid whining that he didn't get a gaming PC (though he got a brand new Nintendo Switch or something). I would have told him to be thankful that he received anything at all. Instead he could have received a kick in the butt with a frozen Muckluk, lol (a joke my dad told me since I was a kid).

For the first story whenever the kid gets a gift after ask her very sadly if you can get (insert expensive gift) and then when you don't get it smugly tell them if that was you there'd be a fit
